Dimension Shift question
The best ways to use DS that I'm aware of:
- If you don't slot it with accuracy it can be a good way to split a large spawn
- It's an excellent panic button that's nearly always up
- Griefing your own team - well, sometimes they're going to deserve it
Dimension Shift is a handy tool when you're soloing, and you have to deal with an ambush while another power is recharging, like your best attack. Think of it like a reversed Personal Force Field that can miss.
There are few reasons to take DS for pve. Many times your team mates will not know what the hell you just did anyway. It's sort of like wormhole in that team mates either get it or they don't get it. The time it takes to explain the use of either power pretty much negates eithers effectiveness on a team that JUST doesn't get it. Keep it copacetic . You can use both and out maneuver your dumb team which is basically you soloing whatever is going down or use neither and try to explain what you might want to do the next mob and see how it goes. If you only pve I wouldn't bother with DS.
It's useful on the Barracuda SF if you want to cover the spawns on the last fight by yourself while the rest of the team fights the Reichsmann. Then again, the number of people who regularly run that SF is pretty low. If it had a smaller radius of effect, had a controllable duration or was a single target power I could see dozens of uses for it. As it is though, that one part of that one SF is about the best there is.
Actually.. I'd expect it's actually pretty decent for AE boss farming.
No, I was serious.
Okay, okay, you can stop laughing now.
So here's the deal: boss farms are all bosses, which can be ballpark 16-20 bosses per pack. The maximum number of baddies that'll pay attention to a single target at once is 16. So, what happens if you pull two packs? The other 16-24 bosses all agro whoever happens to be around.
Since the AOE cap and the agro cap are both 16 anyway, you may as well shift out the extra pack and let them shift back in while you're mopping up the first one. I haven't tried this, but it's my experience that the duration of other controls is pretty sharply limited by the level of the target - so hopefully 52-54 bosses will phase back in faster than 50 minions.

DS is actually worse than before now because the mobs will still attack you even after Shifted. They just don't deal damage. It is extremely confusing. I am done explaining to teammates about what DS is doing.
If I need a real good "oh !@#$#" button, I just run away.
If you solo a lot, then DS is ok, at least you can control who you want to shift.
Here is the problem I have with this power. 8/10 people don't like it so that 2/10 people think it's "user's fault" for not being creative. The fact that you are trying to be creative about it proves that this power is pretty ... garbage. A power is created to have a clear purpose and DS's purpose seems to annoy more than contribute. If I create something and 8/10 people complain about it, then I'll improve the design rather than blaming on the users.
Have you seen a Stalker with Repluse? Yup.. that's my /Energy Stalker! I took it for a while and try to make myself feel good about taking this power. I eventually stop "justifying" my action once I have access to patron powers. It is a very "questionable" power on Stalker. I do feel it may have a purpose in PvP but I don't pvp much and Defense set is joke in pvp now anyway.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
I skipped this power, and so far it's not planned in my build. I do have one free power choice that I am not locked into. I think right now it's sniper blast at level 49 to eventually mule some IO sets. I've even considered Propel just for the occasional giggles of hurling a forklift.
I know there is a lot of hate for DS, and it can annoy teams. I mostly solo with my Grav and I am just looking to pick some brains for clever uses of the power. I'd like to be optimistic that having a long lasting hard control that opens at level 12 isn't absolute crap due to some terrible mechanic. There have to be some clever uses for this power right? Anyone? Bueller?
