This thread is for discussion and feedback on arc #15976, "Glory Days" - comments, suggestions and questions; what you liked, and what you didn't.

Keywords: Custom Characters, Canon Related, Mystery
Length: Long (4 missions, Small and Medium maps)
Morality: Heroic
Enemies: 5th Column, Family, Arachnos
Level Range: 1-54, mostly; Mission 1 is locked to 1-30 to avoid problems with blueside Family spawns, and Mission 3 is locked to 25-34 because of the enemy group used.

All of the missions contain a main villain of up to Elite Boss rank, though all but the last also feature a Boss ranked ally. It is thus suitable for solo play (though some ATs may have an easier time than others) as well as teams.

Description: A new villain is making the headlines, and Sister Psyche's given you the name of an old friend who might be able to help. Enter the mind of a retired hero to relive the past and find a clue to aid you in the present.

I've played it, and I thought it was fantastic. This is exactly what the AE aspires to be - interesting story, compelling characters, a blast to play, carefully and thoughtfully written, and (last but not least) well edited. I sent you my (minor) suggestions in-game, which I am pleased to see that you've already adopted.

Five stars, people, give it a try!

Arc 15976, Glory Days, @Megajoule

I echo all of Xyzygy's comments above!

This is a great story. It's a really good use of the AE system, exploring an old hero's memories (through a Mu-magic alternative to hypnosis) to provide a lead on a modern day villain. Very smoothly done. The style of each mission is wonderfully aligned with history's enemies. Where an ally is provided, he is well balanced to let the player lead (and takes a few hits when you need him to).

The detail is great (the souvenir is really well written!). Without giving too much away, I was pleasantly surprised in one mission to find my 'ally' had not foolishly gone and gotten himself captured or killed. A nice change.

Note that other arcs also have the exact same title. One published at almost the same time as this one, a third published much later.

The first mission contact dialogue suggests you've come to the contact because a modern villain resembles a historical one. This premise is set up in the Arc Description, players would do well to remember this detail (not always easy if someone else selects the mission).

The only confusion I have is that the down-up-down-up level range across the missions. The nature of the earlier missions offers some potential to explain this effect away, but no explanation is provided for suddenly losing and regaining powers. Also, the last mission allows for levels 1-54. With an Elite Boss, level 1 isn't practical. You could look at smoothing out the bumps in the level range, and perhaps explaining the remaining bumps with some pseudopsychobabble.

A classic tale done very creatively, highly recommended to others. 5-stars.

Thank you very much for your comments and praise.

The level ranges will get looked at again come I16 (edit: how does 25-30 sound?). Right now, they've been kept as wide-open as possible so that they can be played for xp at almost any level. The missions with narrower ranges are solely because of faction spawn limits. I can't provide any other explanation, because it's something the game mechanics impose on me.

I really enjoyed this arc! Great story and well written!

I only spotted one possible typo. In the bio of Strong, I would say "hard as diamonds" instead of "hard as diamond".

I would also add mission titles.

I loved how you framed the story and all the details.

I loved Marko's initial pose in mission 1..

I am not sure why you made mission 4 a kill all. I have no problem with it at all because it was a small map, but it might scare off someone who is browsing for missions to play.

I loved the last mission debrief and the souvenir.

This arc was a lot of fun to play

Thanks for the extended feedback!

I believe "as diamond" is the more usual form when discussing relative hardness of substances, where diamond is considered more as a material than individual stones/gems.

Mission titles... hm. I'll think about it, though I still tend to follow the original dev-written mission style where possible.

Mission 4 is a defeat-all because as a hero, you should be stopping all of the bank robbers (IMO). In the others, you're an (interactive) observer of past events; beat up the bad guys or not, what matters is seeing what happens to Marko (and Strong).

Thanks again for your compliments on the other aspects of the arc.

A quick bump to note that, as promised, "Glory Days" has now been locked to a single tier (25-30). If anyone played it before and didn't like their level yo-yoing up and down, I invite you to give it another try.

Inspired by some feedback from Eva Destruction, I've added a little more "flavor" to this arc - more clues, more patrols, more side objectives, etc - and tweaked a few things. So if you haven't run this arc in a while (or at all), I encourage you to give it a look. It's four missions "Long", but they're on small maps and go by quick.

A minor and a maybe not so minor tweak: slightly changed the name of a set of destructible objects, and knocked the final boss's primary set down from "hard" to "standard" - he only gives 75% xp now (down from 88%), but several people (myself included, honestly) found him just too hard to solo on some characters. This should help. If anyone finds him to be too easy now, please let me know.
