Invincibility

I have a small question about Invincibility.

When jumping in the middle of a mob, will a critter's attack initiate before my defense increases or will I get the initial boost in defense first?

Basically, who goes first?

From play experience, I have an /inv that is soft capped when two baddies are in range and it seems they get the an initial hit in first and then everyone else starts missing a lot more often than not, but I was curious if there is some kind of number evidence of it.

My understanding is that Invincibility ticks once a second with an effect that lasts one second. It may be that a mob has a heightened chance to hit you if the mob hits with the fraction of a second before it registers.

It really depends on how quick you are to jump into the group. If they see you coming and aggro before they're inside the aura (usually you can tell because they'll adopt a "Look! A hero!" stance), then they'll attack before you get your defense buff. The same applies if you aggro the spawn with a ranged or AoE power like Hurl or Taunt. But if you get into the spawn quickly enough, the debuff/taunt effects of Invincibility will "wake them up" and in this case you'll have the defense buff before they can attack you.

This was my initial thought on the whole thing and was just curious if there was a game mechanic that I wasn't aware of.

Thanks for the responses.
