Actually not a single bit was scary. The preview of the next movie Mila is going to play in (based on true occurances supposedly) with everyone seeing the odd white owl... was more scary than any part in D9.

There's parts you can say, "That's inhumane" but yeah like Tech said, it's more gory. There was a few messed up parts which kind of made you sad... I think official critics out there got the right idea, "You found yourself rooting for the Prawn." There's was a few jacked up stuff going on at once.

I haven't read the books myself but am told they are good but very different from the show. The first half of the first series follows somewhat closely with the books, then they totally split, and the books are entirely told from Sookies perspective so you don't get nearlyy as much of a view into the motivations of any of the other characters...making them much less likable.
I believe there are currently 9 books in the series, but there's reprinted in 3 to a volume anthologies, and boxed sets as well.

Meh I only watch True Blood because I'm bored so I can't imagine willing myself to read the books. I just don't find vampires fun at all, they're boring and overrated to me. Werewolves are a different story, I'm waiting for a good movie to do them justice.

Although watching a particular vampire fry did look cooler than say last season where Jason's vampire friend got staked. So they've improved graphics slightly which is nice.
