Team/Local Chat Function Not Working

Maybe I unknowingly tweaked some setting sin options, but for some reason I cant seem to send/receive any general chat or messages when in Team or Local mode, I can only talk in broadcast mode. I can type into that chat box fine, but if im with a team and i press enter in team chat the message doesn't show up, it doesn't go through it seems, and I cant see chatter from teammates if theyre talking in team chat. Anyone know what could be causing this?

It sounds like you're simply not seeing that channel.

Do you still have two sections (upper and lower) in your chat window? This is in addition to the single-line section where you type.

If yes - you may be displaying the wrong tab. Is the CHAT tab selected? This is the tab that will normally display team and local text. If it's not selected, or it's missing, you won't see anything on those channels but you are still sending.

Also, do you have a chat tab? You may have deleted it (not hard to do).


Rather than give a detailed explanation of how to fix each different issue, let us know EXACTLY what your chat window looks like (how many sections, how many tabs on each and their names). Then we can tell you how to fix it (not hard at all, but not 'intuitive').

I think the section thing is the issue, it appears that I only have one open, but im not certain on that. I dont know what chat tab you're refering to, the chat box is open if thats what you mean...

Okay, this image on ParagonWiki.com shows you a chat window. The window depicted has been customized with some extra tabs. If you want to read a lot of useful info about the chat window, go to this page on the same site.

What I'm calling the "top section" has 5 tabs: Global, Combat, TW, Hami, Help.
The "bottom section" has 3 tabs: Chat, ISO, Mkt.

You should have a 'top section' with Global, Combat and Help tabs (at least).
You should have a 'bottom section' with Chat.... a single tab on the bottom might be the default. I customized my chat window years ago so I'm not sure.

So, compared to the image I linked, what does your chat window look like?

Okay, you've lost your 'Chat' tab completely. Annoyingly, it's not that hard to accidentally right click and hit 'delete tab' while trying to do something else.

Let's see if I can do this from memory:
1. Right-click in the middle of the window and pick CREATE TAB.

2. Name the new tab 'Chat' (at the top center of the pop-up window).

3. You'll have a column on the right of 'Available Channels' you can add, and a column on the left that's empty.

4. Select and ADD the following channels (i.e. select it in the list on the left, then hit the Add button, then select the next and hit Add, etc):
Coalition
Emotes
Friends
Local
Private Messages
Super Group
Team

5. Hit the OK button.

6. Try left-clicking and dragging the new Chat tab halfway down toward the bottom of the chat window and release it and see if it 'sticks' there. If not, try right-clicking it and there should be an option 'Move To Bottom'.

7. Success?


I don't have a list with me of all the channels that should be on the Chat tab (I have the list on another computer) but I think I got all the important ones.
