My 1st ever build - Kin/Sonic 'Fender - Rate please

Hey,

I've never actualy created a build before, so I thought id start now!
I'm not sure about my slotting, but I know a fair bit about which sonic attacks to use, and when to get them(as I have a 39 sonic/ice blaster).
I put no enhancements in, because I have no idea about them!

Could you please rate, and possibly finish my build please?

Thanks,
Aiz

Would prefer a build that has a link to it so I can import it and then play with it.

Transfusion Empty(A), Empty(3)

Needs to 5-6 slotted. 1-2 acc, 3 heal, 1 recharge

Shriek Empty(A), Empty(3), Empty(5), Empty(19)

1 acc, 3 damage, at most. If you need slots, this is a good place to take it from.

Siphon Power Empty(A), Empty(5), Empty(19)

1-2 acc, 0-3 recharge. If you need slots, this is a good place to take it from.

Shockwave Empty(A), Empty(11), Empty(11), Empty(13), Empty(13)

Skip, take Howl instead. You want the AoE -res secondary effect since you are damage capping a team.

Swift Empty(A)
Health Empty(A)
Stamina Empty(A)

Completely skippable. I took Leadership pool instead. If you are building it to solo, the Fitness pool is helpful.

Transference Empty(A), Empty(27), Empty(31), Empty(31)

5-6 slotted. 1-2 acc, 2-3 end mod, 2-3 recharge.

Siren's Song Empty(A), Empty(29), Empty(29), Empty(31), Empty(34)

To be honest, I have this 2 slotted for acc at level 42. If you want to add more slots for IO sets bonuses, then go for it, but outside of that, I prefer the minimal slotting.

Fulcrum Shift Empty(A), Empty(33), Empty(33), Empty(33), Empty(34), Empty(34)

5 slots is enough. 2 acc, 3 recharge.

Screech Empty(A), Empty(36), Empty(36), Empty(37)

5-6 slots. 1-2 acc, 2-3 disorient, 1-2 recharge.

Stealth Empty(A)

Get it at 49. 1 end reduc.

Dark Consumption Empty(A), Empty(42), Empty(42)
Soul Drain Empty(A), Empty(48), Empty(48), Empty(48), Empty(50)

Both are near pointless on a Kin. You have Transference and Stamina so end issues shouldn't exist. Fulcrum damage caps you anyway. I would look at Psy, or Power for epics.

Dreadful Wail Empty(A), Empty(50), Empty(50)

6 slot this. 3 recharge, 3 damage.

What form are you using to export that from? I use the phpBB Zetaboards one.

Here's my version of yours. Thinking about it, you might switch in Conserve Power with Power Build Up. I don't solo my build, so end issues really don't happen.

Hover at 14 instead of Fly?

Posted

You are using IR as a travel power anyway. If you just want to use Fly for travel, move Hover to 18. Hover is vastly used for mobility in fights and it gives you a place to slot the -KB.

I'd like to see Combat Jumping in there somewhere. I find immobs to be one of the bigger dangers my Kin/Sonic faces (I'm specifically thinking of the Security Chief? mission of the STF).

I can't in good conscience go without urging you to include Increase Density. You'll see a lot of kins complain about it and so be it, it's another ally only buff you have to apply frequently, as if SB weren't enough. Still, it's very powerful and a great mez breaker. I consider it a "must have". You can stick a Steadfast Protection -kb IO in there and be done with it. The smart kin keeps it perma on the teammate that can break a mez that hits you (the emp, pain dom, etc).

Two accuracies is certainly overkill when you have Tactics. Howl is actually more effective with 2 range enhancers. At level 47, the damage/range HOs are dirt cheap. I say that because I'm trying to take best advantage of the 20% Res debuff to hit as many targets as possible to boost overall team damage.

Take out Fitness if you want, but be aware that Transfusion becomes a crutch and not used strategically. That is, you'll be using it frequently to fill your own end. I like using it when needed, post blaster nuke or teammate rez, for example.

I like putting 2 recharges in Siphon Power. "But it's useless after Fulcrum Shift" someone may say. It's not useless for AVs; it becomes a fabulous debuffing power.

At 50, you'll want 5 slots for Siren's Song because the purple set is dirt cheap (relatively).

Find a cheap Dmg/Rch for Dreadfull Wail and you can save a slot.

Recently dusted off my Kin/sonic and was reminded about the lack of CJ. Hover can position you above stuff where you want, but it's definitely something I had to get use to.

I didn't bring this issue up, but Stealth is kind of a dead power in this build. It's mostly useful when you know you have a Siphon Speed buff on you, but that's not something that happens 100% of the time. ID would be a good replacement. As would Hasten, but it would need more slots.

I'm pretty sure my build was doing 1 acc on everything outside of Fulcrum and it works rather well. Howl is the is the only one I really notice missing. Yes, you can show me the numbers all day long. I'm still two slotting it for acc.

This isn't true based on my experience. Again, I don't solo and I'm not taking about after I nuke. I really don't have end issues using a very similar build. I find just keeping the team actively SBed(not even perma) helps give you little breaks from attacking and helps with any blue bar issues. That and just using whatever blues drop way more than covers me.

I would also advise you to take ID, it's a great place to stick the steadfast protection -KB.

IMO you don't need Amplify, Tactics AND Power Boost. You can cap your own damage, and with good slotting you will only miss the minimum amount of time anyway. Out of the three I would suggest dropping Power Boost and perhaps replacing with Conserve Power, it does help when you can't rely on Transference...IE, fighting Carnie Illusionists, anything too dangerous to be in melee with, anything that flees.

I notice you also haven't considered Hasten in any of the builds...I find it a must, it's one of the luxuries of Kinetics that it's an easy set to achieve perma-Hasten with.

Well, I only have one problem, IR is only a temp power, so not too sure on using it as a travel power. I like Fly. When i solo, end is a problem(at my level) So taking that into mind, what do you think is a good build?

Posted

IR is a perfectly viable travel power. It frankly amazes me when I see critics of it complain that they have to click a button every minute (or less). If you like flying around, that's fine, but IR is not a temp power, it's perma with absolutely no slotting or global recharge.

I have Amplify, Tactics and PBU.

Tactics is certainly plenty for standard fights. Amplify if you get hit with a To-Hit debuff (or fighting mobs with +Def) lastly PBU+Veng, well... it's a thing of beauty.

Tactics looks interesting, I like buffs alot, yes, I do play teams alot, but i often do cozzy, or cape/aura mishs solo, and story arcs, so having some end during those mish's is helpful! I wouldnt mind swapping fly out for ss either, and air superiority for hasten?

Ideas/build?

Hear hear for IR, a lot of people seem to forget that for Defenders it is identical in jump height/speed to pool power superjump!

I just went and subbed out Leadership, for Fitness, and moved some slots around. I gave you Fly instead of IR. If you want Fitness and Leadership, you'll have to lose Stealth. I would probably switch to the Psy epic and take out Aim and Siren's Song to open up the other two power slots.

And here's the Fitness and Leadership pool version. If you want to shift some slots around, you can take one of the accs from single target powers, but beyond that it's a fairly solid common IO/SO type build. Only the KB protection IO is there and that's because you want some sort of KB protection in the build. It doesn't have CJ for countering immobilization, but you can get some of that resistance from IO sets. It lacks ID, but I'm hard pressed to see what to take out to fit those powers in when you are doing both Fitness and Leadership. It also lacks Air Sup. that was in your build and if you are hell bent on it being in there, sub it in for Shout because I'm drawing blanks where else to put it in.

I used Hover on my builds so I can slot the KB protection there. PBU can be used with Transfusion, Transference(mind you, it's more useful on a /elec), and Vengeance. Kind of funny for me to post a build with Amplify since I never take that power on any of my defenders. It's more useful solo since it will be harder to hit the damage cap and you might not feel the need to run the Leadership toggles during then either so if you run up against a debuffing CoT LT., you'll be happy it's there.

I've considered it a number of times on my Kin/sonic. The reason I haven't taken it yet is because /sonic is so single target based the powers recharge fairly quickly as is. I think it's a power that's great if you can fit it in, but not as needed compared to other Kin sets.
