I suspect it will stay there as long as the game is active.
Same as any other redeemable Vet Reward, like the Free Tailor Sessions.
I keep hoping that with Going Rogue we'll get more slots on each server so we can have 48 instead of 36. That's not based on anything, just my own wish list.

So...
I got my 24 month vet badge today and with it the free character slot.
I play on Virtue and have every slot there filled.
I don't necessarily want to waste it on a server I will never play on so I wanted to hold onto it.
My question is will it stay there forever? Waiting on the bottom of my character screen:
Redeem Slot : 1 Left
forever?
