Difference in PvE and PvP defence values

Hi all,

Could someone please tell me why my defence is lower (actually a fair bit) in PvP zone comparing to PvE zone?

My /energy brute has quite good defence in PvE from set bonuses and did (to my surprise) rather well in LRSF. But when I took her to RV, she just could not stop being hit. Then I checked the numbers, overall her defence in RV is lower than she normally would.

I don't know why

Issue 13 brought itself the start of the pvp revamp. One of the features of this was diminishing returns in an attempt (though in many eyes failed) to make all ATs equal/have a fighting chance against any player controlled character.

What DR means is that all players get a bonus 10% resistance ( i think?) to all attacks and every power had its strength re-evaluated for pvp purposes. This means some attacks/defences are now either higher or lower depending on the power in question. Example would be flurry, its power is now immense in a pvp zone compared to pre i13.

Another thing to take note of is that set bonuses are affected by DR too, you cant really figure out the severity of each sets DR because its too vast to pre-predict and combat numbers dont show the true value too. So as a small example, if you got 20% melee def from set bonuses, in a pvp zone you'ld now get something like 7% bonus instead.

It seemed that thay wanted more people to try pvp. So made it 'allegedly' more accessible but with numbers like those, fewer people will be interested.

My scrapper on build #1 has a semi pvp build. But zonal pvp has never really interested me, and is even less likely to appeal to me now. But thats just me, if you are happy with it - have fun.

Long story short:

Defense sucks. Always has, always will.

If you hate it now, wait until I14. It actually gets WORSE. At least as far as Beta testing has shown. Maybe they're making some changes for the Live version (I hope so), but as it stands, defense based sets are always going to be the underdog in PvP situations.

So they dial down the defence in any defensive armour. But did they do something with To-Hit value in, say, leadership as well? If they don't, they basically strip the armour off to bare bone from any defensive set in PvP... Ocuh
