Problems running two clients on two machines.

HI,

My problem is this; I am running two machines a desktop running Windows XP (SP3) and the other a Laptop running Vista. They are both connected, as in physically with ethernet cabling, to a cable modem through a netgear WGR614v9 Router.
What appears to be happening is that when one (doesn't matter which) is using the bandwidth the other seems to recieve none and just hangs, this is true for the Heroes client but also true for Firefox and Explorer.

I'm asking here first since it will cost me a bomb to ring my providers PC techs.

When it hangs, can you still ping the router from both computers? (192.168.1.1)? Or even any website?

Be sure you have the cables in the right ports (modem into the wan port, computers into the switch ones). I see you have your 2nd PC with a fixed IP (.3), that might give a collision if the netgear dhcp aint working properly.

Finaly, be sure to have your router in router mode, not in switch mode. So the cable login-info is stored in your router and he will maintain the connection, in switch mode each PC tries to connect directly to the modem, whereby the modem only can connect to 1. (and thus loosing internet on the other).
