Knightly Defender Reborn...

As i have my second 50 and already have two different ATs going slowly to there, i thought it is a good time to return my roots, re-create my first character in this game, which global and forum nick come from.

KD was created as FF/Psi defender but as i am finding playing defenders boring/non solo able (especially bubble ones) i decided to turn the table a bit.

Here's new Knightly, as a Controller nothing less. If people ask me which set fits me like a glove, it is Mind Control. Not only because my first 50 is a mind troller, Mind has great tools to fit my play style, especially when soloing. Tricky, needs planning, resistant to ambushes.

Okay enough word-garbage from me. Here is the build.

I know enough about Mind side of the things. I need your advices about Kinetics side. I never played a kinetic defender higher than level 12 because of the Siphon Speed. I am one of the people who can't move with SB. With SS i was doing it to myself. So that was kinda weird for me. Now i think i found a way to overcome that hindrance, Hover. If i can hover with SS my hovering speed will be close/faster than my running speed without Sprint.

Now questions i have in mind.

1- I am very spoiled with AM/Hasten combo of Psy, who has them nearly perma. Is Siphon Speed alone enough to close that recharge speed gap for my higher level powers or will i need Hasten as well?

2- Is it possible to bind number pad keys; 1 to 8 for each team member to apply speed boost to them? As i am not very keen on binding what kind of bind command should i enter. What i need is binding numpad1 for team member 1, a warning comment and applying of SB.

3- I didn't get two powers into build from Kin, Repel and Inertial Reduction. I read on many build guides Repel is kinda useless power and from my personal experience i think IR also useless but as nearly all my heroes use fly i don't know about other travel power users. I have two empty power slots in build already; which i filled with Recall Friend and Stealth so i can get them if they have some uses i am not aware.

Thanks for your help,

Highest Regards,
Knightly

If it was my build I'd:
1 In Siphon Power and Siphon Speed go 2Acc, 3Rchg - especially SP it allows it to be stocked. With SO's you should be able to triple stack SS.
2 Drop a slot from health, you have one of the best heals in the game.
3 Not sure I'd take Earth Epic, I've got it on my Ill/Kin and it works great for the extra control and setting up containment but for a Mind I'm not sure that you'd get full benefit. Terrify is a cone so I'd expect you to play just in front of the mob using Mass Hypnosis, FS and Terrify for damage. Your choice though.
4 I'd probably drop ID and Recall friend and put in Maneuvers/Assault and Tactics allowing you to drop some Acc's late on.

From a Set perspective I'd slot for recharg, and yes Hasten is worth taking.

I'd also put an extra recharge in FS

L50s: Tanks: Cryofission - Ice/EM - Dr Celsius - Fire/Ice - Saint George - SD/SS | Controllers: Psichosis - Ill/Kin - Major Chaos - Ill/Stm | Scrappers - Neutron Crusader - DM/SR

Currently Levelling: Angelic Blade - BS/WP Scrapper | Seeds of Destruction - Plant/Kin Controller

What exactly are you trying to achieve with this build?

Setbonus' seem to be all over the place. You seem to go for stuff like recovery which isnt needed as a kin + defense and yet you don't take the shield?

And no earths embrace?

Also...hover/fly's all well and good but both fissure and hurl boulder can only be used on the ground.

Maybe consider a purple set or two? Confuse and sleep sets aren't exactly overly expensive.

Stealth? Why not just put a stealth IO in somewhere?

My suggestion would be something like this:

Thanks for the advice mates but Hover/Siphon Speed thing didn't work out like i thought it would. So I deleted that version of Knightly Defender. Also decided to never try Kinetics again. This is my 3rd one, deleted other two by the very same reason, Siphon Speed and it's movement speed boost.

Still trying to find a set/AT to create Knightly Defender again. Tried many FF/Psi's, some Tanks, Scrappers, Controllers and other Defenders. I think this will be my dilemma for a long time.

So you will see many KD's on Atlas Park until i find a comfortable set for him, without Kinetics of course.

Again thanks for your input and patience to understand my post and trying to came up with advices and even with a build. I hope that ones help someone trying to give a Mind/Kin go.

Highest Regards,

Knightly

Why don't you just not pick Siphon Speed? I have found /Kin to be a wonderful set (Hitting 38 on my Ill/Kin was a revelation!) but if you can't get on with the movement speed just ignore it. Picking up Hasten and recharge set bonus' can negate the need for Siphon Speed anyway.

You can have a Kin build without Siphon Speed but it is one of the jewels of the set and having Hasten doesn't negate the need for it.
With a bit of global recharge you can 4 stack SS for an additional 80% recharge - so yes you can get by without it but I wouldn't recommend it.

You say that you've tried FF/Psy why not try Mind/FF, it can be a very potent combination.
I've posted some links below showing how it can be used to herd, apparently this allows you to clear a mish faster than a Fire/Kin - not so sure myself but take a look.

Hmmm thanks for the lead, Psiphon. I can't remember latest build in the servers but even if i can manage to continue KD as FF/Psi, i am willing to make another troller with Mind/FF. And maybe when we get Cold domination one Mind/Cold.

Even i can't see the videos that guide is golden. Thanks again

I count it as a jewel as I love the power but a /kin can manage quite easily without it. Fulcrum Shift and Transference are the real jewels, which sadly it seems that Knightly hasn't yet experienced.

I would seriously advise just skipping Siphon Speed and seeing how you get on otherwise, because until you have revelled in Fulcrum Shift you do not know the power!

I had lots of low level kins that got deleted due to the SB pl0x requests but eventually stuck it out and love it sooooo much.

Hmmm interesting tactic, i never thought skipping SS. That even work on a Defender. Actually work better on a Defender i guess, as you will get your kin powers faster.

Finally will i be able to play a kin? Time will show it i guess. First i need to level up my current builds.

Thanks for the heads up, Princess. You opened my mind to new possibilities.

I think that you underestimate the power and benefit of Siphon Speed; Fulcrum Shift and Transference are good but they augment only damage and End - as good as that is.

Siphon Speed allows you to:

1 Skip a travel power.
2 Vastly Boost damage by increasing the recharge on Siphon Power, FS and all of your attacks including Epics.
3 Increase control by boosting the recharge of all your control powers including ST for stacking on bosses.
4 Allows you to perma some powers without an extortionately expensive all purple build (as an Ill/Kin you'll have perma PA on a (relatively) reasonable budget).
5 Increased recharge on Transference for even more End.
6 Increased survivability due to recharge on Transfusion.

Personally I wouldn't run a kin without Siphon Speed.

Oh I don't think anyone under-estimates Siphon Speed, its the only thing that lets me get perma-PA on my Ill/Kin and I am a recharge freak.

But it is quite possible to skip it without ruining a build and without your team mates asking why you haven't taken a key power as if you didn't take Fulcrum Shift.

I would NEVER advise anyone to skip it under normal circumstances, but I think Kinetics is something everyone should experience at some point and felt quite sad to see Knightly giving up before he got up high enough to see all the powers.
