as high as possible defense, resistance, hitpoints, with the expense of damage. PBAoEs+Ice Patch and well-slotted taunt to keep aggro.

I don't get the vengeance. A friend has to die so you get more def? I don't view other players needing it as your the one I'd imagine either getting attacked or controlling the situation. To add, no vengeance would make maneuvers redundant.
I understand Tactics and Assault though.
Burn would have to be perma for me, 2 ice patches asap, so at a time would be beneficial and I would want Frozen Aura to cap it off, making room, seeing the Zephyrs makes me wonder what acrobatics is for?

Vengeance is there because people will die, no matter what you do. Someone always screws up and aggros the next mob in the room or the team splits up or something else. It's there to give that extra boost to the team when that happens.
Maneuvers on the other hand is another +few % to the defense, much like CJ. I don't really understand what the tactics would be good for on the build.
Also, good point about Acrobatics. It could actually be removed - I'm not used to leaving it out of a build without natural KB protection.. Frozen Aura might be a good replacement, but that would mean moving some slots around...

Got Burn and Ice Patch to a bit better recharge, added Frozen Aura (with the % of heal proc, since that wouldn't hurt) and dropped Acrobatics, looks better already, thanks

I can vouch for that happening. A tanker would need to macro up plenty of suggestions to prevent it but they'd get ignored and if you pulled every group back then its slow.
Tactics for tohit and perception mainly, res to confuse and fear is good too. Blazing Aura isn't autohit. I like to be using Build up upon entry to a group of Banished Pantheons for example and then stack some gauntlets before its too late. Tactics is good while build up is down in terms of that and also for controllers in the team, they're less likely to miss, more likely to dam mitigate around you and consequently less likely to gain aggro. Its good for pace and then you can gain a def bonus from it. GSFC fit better in tactics, with build up I'd rechg it up as much as poss.

I wish there was a Fire/Ice guide i need some advice on this build since I know NOTHING of the two sets.

New Dawn you don't understand how long it took me to find anything on a Fire/Ice Tank...I feel like Harrisson Ford when he found the treasure.
I am going to make a tank build as well but the only catch is I am going to sacrifice Fiery Embrace, Build Up and Fireball for The Fighting Pool.
I can easily deal w/o having a travel power but I might replace Superspeed with Fireball on the Tanker build.
From what I know Fiery Aura's Weakness is KB and Immob so I tried to focus on that mainly as well as end Recovery. (I heard Fiery Aura can get costly END wise)
I'm not covered much on Toxic Res or Def or Resis that' why I need your help I am used to playing squishies lol.
The way I want to play him is one Taunt the baddies get them to Dogpile on me then I will turn on Ice Patch and Burn with some yummy Frozen Aura PBaoe...then add of course Blazing Aura and Melt Armor to the mix and it get's quite Nice. I wouldn't mind slotting for slows but keep in mind I am going to play this toon like a brute.

I see alot of bonuses but not many amounting to any particular niche. It's an idea to have specific goals or needs, covered. So I chose some that stood out from it which was +Dam, +rechg, +acc and +hitpoints and did a variance on your build. Your DPS should be better with this I think.

Nice! I tend to be a bit everywhere and I choose what fancies me I think with most of my toons I need to work on a Niche. I am going to save this thanks a bunch btw!
This is the build I am going for. I have most of it already and I am just filling in the rest. I was hoping for a better Burn combo with quicksand, but mobs still run away from the Burn patch. With the second Quicksand down, it helps. If nothing else, the -def from the quicksand helps.
I was hoping the quicksand would help with farming Freaks, but I may not worry about it with the reduction to them.

I was going to make my second build my Tank build close to that. You gave me insight on what's ahead.
With my Tank build I was going to go with Earth to keep them in the patches...or I could just go insane and slot mostly for slows...*cringe*.
Earth epic is Gold for Tanking, ideal on the second not so concept build imo. I would like Gadget Mastery that did something very similar...(Like? Love!).

New Dawn you don't understand how long it took me to find anything on a Fire/Ice Tank...I feel like Harrisson Ford when he found the treasure. I am going to make a tank build as well but the only catch is I am going to sacrifice Fiery Embrace, Build Up and Fireball for The Fighting Pool. I can easily deal w/o having a travel power but I might replace Superspeed with Fireball on the Tanker build. From what I know Fiery Aura's Weakness is KB and Immob so I tried to focus on that mainly as well as end Recovery. (I heard Fiery Aura can get costly END wise) |
You may want to take more fire powers from your epic if you have Fiery Embrace (get Fire Blast instead of Air Sup. and find a way to put more slots in it).
Consume will have more utility than Rise of the Phoenix. I feel that self-rez powers are a waste of a power choice unless you happen to have a free slot. You shouldn't be dying frequently enough to need it. You can always combine insps to make a rez.
I have a build (currently at level 42) that isn't an AV killer or anything, but is relatively cheap. It reflects my control-oriented philosophy. The two holds allow you to hold most bosses immediately and permanently in the Burn patch. The Ice Patch/Burn combo works pretty well against most minions and LTs, even considering how much Fear Burn generates.
Faster recharge on Healing Flames is important, so I'd emphasize Recharge enhancements over Healing enhancements there.
The three slots in Health in your build may not be worth it. According to Mids, the regen rate on your build is 16.2 hp/sec, while it's 14.9 hp/sec on mine. Over the 17.3 second recharge time on my Healing Flames you will regen 22.5 more hit points. It seems like a drop in the bucket on a 2050 hp-tanker.
Again, this was a fairly cheap build (not my main server) and it could certainly be optimized a great deal at large expense. The priciest stuff would be the -KB IOs, Obliteration and the Positron's Blasts. Everything else you can probably get from the market cheaply, or with Bronze rolls from AE tickets.

Unless absolute devastation is your thing there is absolutely no need to IO set an intelligently built Fire/Ice/Earth imo so you can afford a IO setted Fire/Ice/Fire and a basic SO slotted Fire/Ice/Earth as a 2nd build

Been thinking about new characters as I've hit a slump period and haven't really bothered playing my old ones in a while. And here's one that I've been toying around more than the others. A Tanker-y Fire Tank. Probably the first character I've designed without Hasten. (but at least it has Vengeance, so it's in line with other ones I have)
Now, the real questions I'm looking to be answered are, as I've never played either fire/ or /ice to higher level than about 10 - are the couple of offensive powers "enough". Would the build be "viable" with just them and the good looks of the defensive side.
Oh, and it's the respec build, naturally.
