Defender name & Champions online
You can't own a word. They own the character Defender not the word defender.
What Gash said.
I remember when Intel tried to trademark the lower case letter 'i'. Even the American legal system wouldn't let them get away with that one.
Actually, funny thing is, I'd have thought Defender (the character) was owned by Hero Games. Maybe they never bothered.

If Wikipedia's beleived (uh...) Cryptic bought the whole Champions IP - not just the rights, the whole... flipping... intellectual property, the PnP game and everything - and sold the rights to publish the 6th Edition of the PnP game back to Hero Games.
In a word: o_o'
In more: Cryptic own the Defender character proper.
Sam: "My mind is a swirling miasma of scintillating thoughts and turgid ideas."
Max: "Me too."

Is NCSOFT going to pay permission to use the name or change it?
