Gravity Secondary Effect?

Totally weird question. I've got a new Dominator (Grav/Energy, melee flavour) and noticed something on the Tomax guide. My single target hold (and immoblize, but lets focus on the hold) Gravity Distortion has the secondary effect of give -50% Movement Speed (running, flight, jumping) for 12 seconds. Now I'm a little confused. If my hold hits, isn't this kind of pointless as they'll, you know, be held and unable to move at all? Or does this apply when the hold hits but the magnitude isn't enough to actually hold the target in question? Or what? I've read a rather adept PVP Dominator guide that says this secondary effect is the most useful thing at time...but obviously I'm unclear on how this comes up because I can't seem to slow my targets...only hold them completely with this power.

How does the slow movement aspect of some of the gravity powrs work...as they're all linked to powers that completely halt movement if they work properly?

When something is immune to the hold part, it is still affected by the slow movement part. If, in PvP he pops enough BFs to break the hold, he's still slowed annoyingly.

edit: Also, in PvP, the dominator's biggest issue is the 10 (or was it 15) second suppression period after a hard control has worn off. Soft control like slows are unaffected by suppression.

It applies when the mag isn't enough to Hold or Immob them (GDF, Crush and Crushing Field do it too). Great vs Bosses, EBs and AVs in PvE. Run speed caps at 10% and should also benefit from Power Boost AFAIK.

The other good side effect is that these powers can take Slow IOs, including the Damage PROC, meaning you can get 3 damage PROCs into Crushing Field if you liked.

Spot on. I saw last night what you were talking about...an Elite Boss couldn't be held but got positively retarded slow when he tried to chase us. Thanks for the clarification.
