The Unity Vigil

This press conference airs on Tuesday 3rd April at 12.30 on Paragon City's Channel 7 news, and then later on other news networks. Zorielle Rolando, the person who spoke at the conference, may be known for past deeds in the city. In addition to being the CEO of the now closed ZorTel Industries and the heroine Zortel, she recieved the Stalwart Medallion during her efforts of the Rikti Invasion, where she held off a tide of invading Rikti from the area of the city she was in at great personal cost and injury.

"Mmmh, love, you coming to bed?" A woman's voice called out from the bedroom. It was fairly early... or late in the night on Rolando Island. Situated in the South Pacific, the privately owned island was home to the Rolando family and their close friends, as well as several of the androids and gynoids that the family had created.

"Alright dear, just finishing up." Tessa called out, saving the notes she was typing up and shutting down her laptop. She often enjoyed working on the balcony, looking over the west of the island and the houses below. Taking the slim notebook inside, she set it on the desk and slid the balcony doors shut.

Zorielle was already in bed, her glasses folded up and resting on the bedside table as she combed her long, dark hair out. Slipping her dressing gown off and hanging it up, Tessa climbed into bed and shuffled over to cuddle up, nestling her head against her partner's shoulder. Zori couldn't help but smile at the feeling of Tessa's short red hair tickling her skin, and afte a few more combs she put the brush to one side.

"Lights off." She said, the illumination in the room dimming down to nothingness, before laying back on the bed in her partner's arms.

"So, how's things going then, my love?" Tessa asked.

"Tough..." she admitted with a little sigh. "It's just getting the ball rolling at first, recruiting people and getting known."

"Hopefully people should start coming forward at some point... what do you think of the ones we have already?"

Zori smiled. "Well, not much I need to say about our Hannah, is there? Cauter... seems like a decent man, he knows a lot of the PFD too. I think he'll be a valuble member of the team." She muesd a little. "Officer Preston I'm not so sure about... sure his track record is good, but... he's going through some pretty big changes at the moment, I'm worried that personal issues may interfere with his work and his duties with the Vigil."

"Ellie seems to have a good opinion of him... so does Eloise from what I've heard." Tessa said reassuringly, kissing Zori's shoulder. "I'm sure he'll do fine."

"Cindersnap, he's one of the MYRS ones... he seems a nice kid, if a little overconfident.. some anger issues too. Might be best to let Hannah deal with him, they are both former Outcasts after all, and both have been in Juvenile Hall."

"Definately a good idea... I think it'd help him."

Zori's fingertip brushed through the side of her partner's hair. "Fridan seems very polite and friendly... from what I've heard, he'll be a good addition. Our MAGI liasion, Mary is rather promising too. Got a sense of humour on her too. They're a good start." she smiled proudly.

"Guess you'll be hunting tomorrow then for new recruits, huh? Any in mind?" Tessa said with a content little smile, her eyes half closed at the stroking.

"I've got a few ideas... and don't worry, I'll make plenty of time for you and the kids." Zori promised.

"Really?"

"Really." The dark haired Spanish woman said with a nod, leaning in with her lips pouted for a kiss. With a coy little smile, Tessa pouted her lips, leaning in towards her wifes embrace...

They stopped short as a cry came from the bedroom next door, followed shortly by another one. The two women looked at each other for a moment before smiling.

"They sure have their timing, huh?" Tessa sighed.

"That they do, dear... want me to go check on them?"

"No no, you get your rest, you've had a busy day dear. Lights, one quater illumination." The red-head said out aloud, the bedroom lights flicking on before she slipped out of the covers, ready to go and see what was disturbing her two children.

"Mamamamamama!" Kelly gurgled, her tiny hands reaching up towards her mother as she entered the room. It was around three am on Saturday morning, Zorielle having responded to the cries coming from the bedroom next to hers. Adjusting her dressing gown, she bent over the crib and picked up her daughter.

"Ssssh... you don't want to wake your brother up, do you?" she said softly, cradling her child in her arms as she headed to a chair on the far side of the room to sit down, stroking the coppery-dark lock of hair on her daughter's head with a fingertip.

"What's gotten you up then, Kelly?" Zori asked, smiling softly as the baby snuggled up to her in her arms. "Just wanted your madre?" Leaning back in the chair, Zori got a bit more comfortable.

"I know... I've not been about at home as much as I should be lately... but your madre's very busy trying to help others." Zori said softly. "Hopefully soon though, things will settle and I'll be able to spend more time here with you, and with your brother."

The heroine known as Zortel wasn't really one for baby talk, prefering to speak more sensibly to her children. Her fingertip moved down to the bridge of Kelly's nose, slowly stroking from top to tip.

"The workmen were in the base today, we've been working on getting the facilities set up. We've got the medical bay set up, as well as other things... oh, I recruited two new members today."

Kelly mumbled sleepily, her eyes drifting open and shut as her mother talked.

"There was Cassidy Troy... she worked for the British Military and Intelligence Services... she sems very nice too. And there was BowFire, he's a very friendly and polite man, seemed very willing to help out, especially with the younger recruits." The dark haired woman smiled, before kissing her daughter's forehead.

"I worry at times... what'll happen if this falls apart, things like that... but I know if anything bad does happen, I've still got Tessa, you and your brother, your big sister... so I know things will be allright."

A smile touched her lips as Kelly's hand slowly closed around one of her fingers.

"And that's all I need to keep going, and to make sure to stay as safe as I can be. Come on Kelly, let's get you back to bed." She said softly, standing and taking her daughter back, setting her besides her brother before leaning in to kiss both of their foreheads. Slipping out of the bedroom, she glanced down the large stairwell in the centre of her villa, listening for sounds of life.

"Good, Mona and Lisa are still asleep." Zori said to herself. The pair were two of the gynoids she created back when she owned ZorTel Industries, as guards to aid her. Now though, with the extensive modifications she had made, they were more like members of the family. Content, she made her way back to her bedroom, closing the door behind her before sliping her dressing gown off, to tiptoe her way back and slip into bed besides her partner.

And hopefully drift off back to sleep.

((Looking to run the Bodyguard mission IC, preferably with Unity Vigil or prospective Vigil members, The mission is leftover from... level 48, I think, so there's a bit of SK room. I'll be going on Zortel, level 50 blaster. Anyone else up for this?))

((Update: The Unity Vigil forums are now online at http://unityvigil.forumup.co.uk , registration activation is done by me so it may take a few hours before registed accounts become active. As of this moment, Ultimune and Kompi's accounts have just been activated. Work is still in progress on them as I add information and the like.

Other people are free to post IC and OOC stuff here, hopefully should get some IC teaming done soon.

Work is progressing on the Unity Vigil base, and I'm using my own alts (OOC in the Vigil for prestige gathering purposes, and ShadowGhost is helping out as well) to accumilate this.

How does April 17th sound for the Bodguard Mission, 1900 hours UK time? The message will be announced on the commslink and other communications channels IC for people to gather then at the UV base. People not currently members but wishing to partake, send PM's and something can be sorted out.

There is a global channel formed for use, UnityVigil, though it's not mandatory to join, as I think I have global details for most members to contact them if need be.))

Mileena Lim: Mileena is a family friend, an alien from the planet Etnos. She has considerable knowledge of demons and magic, and has been brought on as a member and Demonology and Magic Consultant.
Tigergirl: Partner of Fusebox, skilled martial artist with impressive strength and regenerative abilities. Brought on as member, consider for possible liasion work with Longbow, or mentoring others in martial arts
Ultimune: Young vigilante, aqquaintance of Nevermore and trained by Night Hunter. Brought on as Junior Member under Supergroup Membership act (for legal protection/insurance.) Very impressive abilities, was able to hack carrier signal to teleport to base. Keep eye on him.
Starborn: Hero, brought on as regular Member. Metahuman strength and toughness, may be useful in teams and solo. Possible personality clashes with MYRS members.
Kanae: Sentient Gynoid, possible liasion for Sentient Rights Act work. Place offered, will need to get her in for scans to help out. Possibly introduce to children.

Yesterday was quite a busy day for the Unity Vigil!

PPD Awakened Liasion Officer, Michael Preston aka Storm Sapphire was visited by Eloise (Tiger Dark) at work in Talos Island. Heading out to the nearby Mighty Mart to get something to eat, Eloise thanked Michael for the flowers that he delivered that morning, hung in front of the window facing a warehouse that Eloise mentioned being the worst view. The two flew off to a quiet corner of Talos, sitting by a waterfall and chatting. They both apologised for not being that comfortable last night (No mention of crying into cocoa/headbutting counters!), and after some more chatting lunchbreak was over and it was time for them to get back to work, Michael working on shipping duty. He was heard grumbling about the night before on the commslink earlier though!

Fusebox went on patrol in Brickstown, speaking to Kanae over the commslink, who was on the tail of a group of Sky Raiders. The two chatted about various things as Hannah's patrol route took her to Striga Isle, where she found herself deep in the Council Base, and used her position to explode around 288,000 rounds of ammunition in one of their storage bunkers. In the ensuing comotion she was able to hack into a mainframe and find out the location of 4 captured geneticists, and Kanae arrived to help her. Inside the base, they tore their way through gimp after gimp, well, Council Vampyr's, and rescued all four, working well together in the face of biohazard containers, fetish-dressed dessicated supersoldiers and men toting miniguns. The two then parted ways, Hannah heading off to grab some late lunch, and Kanae exploring Dark Astoria.

After finishing his sewer sweep with Cauter, the young member of the MYRS project Cindersnap went on patrol in Kings Row, and when he found out that the bank was being robbed, he called friend and King's Row turf expert Ultimune to assist. The two made their way to the First National Bank, where Ultimune's grappling hook jammed. Fighting their way to the bank, they soon encountered Martial Gloom, who handed the two teens an impressive asskicking. ((Explained OOC by the fact that the odd smell of burning plastic sent me into a panic and thought my laptop was in meltdown mode. It was the new toaster. >.> ))

Afterwards, Ultimune popped his dislocated shoulder back into place, and Cindersnap went in to check with the PPD. Finding a possible hideout for Gloom, the two went to deal out revenge and found that Gloom had new friends, a group of Outcasts. Relishing the chance to payback his former gangmembers, Cindersnap and Ultimune fought through their ranks and delivered Martial Gloom a humiliating smackdown of defeat, recovering the money and drooling at the sight of it for a while before calling the police to come and pick it up.

The two headed back to Unity Vigil HQ to fix themselves up in the Medibay, and Cindersnap finally saw Ultimune in his civvies. Cindersnap fixed them up microwave chicken burgers as Ultimune fixed up his grappling hooks, and then made Cindersnap some 'Oil Ups', throwing weapons with oil contained within. Having to head off to see his control operator, CIndersnap bid farewell to Ultimune and headed off.

Later on in the evening, Storm Sapphire was on reserve call, so enjoyed coffee in Pocket D, surrounded by EVIL pirates. He tried speaking to a rather shy seeming catgirl thing, but his presence was making her more nervous, so he backed off and ended up speaking to Tormentress and Laugh Riot. who featured in a news story on Wednesday giving some duke a 'Christmas Cracker'. This has the possibility to call him in front of the Police Commisioner, after all, with friends like Tress, can Michael be trusted to do what his job requires? After some talking with them, Michael headed off with a sigh, torn between a woman he considers a friend, and his job.

Talking to Kanae over the commslink, she soon arrived to chat in person, along with the Unity Vigil's Press Officer, Klair Elwyn who had a story for the Unity Vigil to work on, and were later on joined by Dr. Albert Zimmerman of Ghost Tech Industries. Over commslink, Cauter and The Moral faced down a burning building in Steel Canyon, set alight by the Hellions, and the pair soon called for assitance from Michael, who flew off to aid them.

Zortel herself arrived to speak with people, congratulating Kanae for the job she did with Fusebox, and then arranged a meeting with Albert about him maybe joining the Unity Vigil as a consultant. She then headed off home to her family, as the three members in Steel Canyon pulled back, the building clear but unable to be saved as the fire reached the boiler room and exploded, minor casualties suffered to the civilains, but no deaths.

Unity Vigil Success on Striga.

The Council and members of the Family have held Striga Isles in a stranglehold for several years now, but as events on Saturday 14th showed, there are heroes still ready to stand against deeply ingrained gangs and armies that threaten the city. When this reporter unearthed through her contacts a large collection of Council Robots about to be shipped to the city, a quick call to the Unity Vigil HQ brought two of their members to Striga Isles, ready to step up and stop the threat.

Cauter and Starborn, two of the Vigil's heavy hitters, arrived with the former notorious nictus Tiger Dark, who has reformed and started to defend the very city she once prowled through on the hunt, and the three fought their way through Council ambushes on the street to get to the factory where the order was waiting to be shipped to Paragon City.

Inside, the three battled bravely through the quickly activated robots and their handlers, bringing an impressive mix of fire, pure strength and will, and Warshade abilities against the evil organization.

Not even an ambush of members from the Warrior gang outside, drawn to the factory by the sounds of commotion within, could stop the group. Regathering outside of the popular Mermaid Tavern in Port Noble, they were joined by young vigilante and Vigil member Ultimune, who had been seen on Friday saving a large amount of money from a raid on the First National Bank in Kings Row, and proceeded to start clearing up the docks of the Family members that had become an all too common sight on the quays.

When information was found on a shipment of the infamous narcotic Superadine, also known as 'Dyne and Supes, that was about to leave the port to flood our fair city's streets with junk, the Unity Vigil stepped up to the challenge yet again, and on a successful raid inside the ship destroyed all the crates of Dyne, street value $4 million USD, and arrested the drug traffickers along with several higher ranking members of the Family, earning them the gratitude of the DEA and the PPD.

Dr. Albert Zimmerman: Warshade, brought on as consultant first mostly, may be able to help with bases teleporters. May want to give combat experience to.
The Moral: Associate of Nevermore, vigilante, often using either a katana or a bow and speciality arrows. Hold off on duty with MYRS placement heroes for a while. Well versed in literature and philosophy. Member.
Madame Midknight: Brought on as member, skilled with some aspects of magic, especially RE: Undead and communcation with the spirits. Odd sense of humour, may wish to limit who she teams with.
Gray Geiger: Brought on under FBSA Hero Experience program, Junior member. Sophie is a friend of Hannah's, have her give training. Monitor containment systems and power levels.

These posters have gone up in Freedom Court, City Hall, Freedom Corp training facilities, FBSA departments, Juvenile Halls (Associated with the Metahuman Youth Reforment Scheme) and the Ziggurat.

Current Vigil Activites:
New Hero Training: Fusebox, Cauter and Storm Sapphire have been working with young/new heroes: Gray Geiger, Cindersnap and Ultimune.
Pocket D Investigations: Kanae and Storm Sapphire have been keeping an eye out in Pocket D on various metahumans, 'cop hunch' Storm Sapphire calls it.
War on Drugs: Cauter and Cindersnap have been working on cutting back the tide of Superadine on the streets.
Hot on the Trail: New member Kanae has been working hard in cases against the Tsoo, Freakshow and Sky Raiders, liasing with various heroes for assitance.
Can't Fault That: Young (and gifted) vigilante Ultimune has been taking the fight to Arachnos in Faultline.
War and Peace: Storm Sapphire, at the behest of Sunstorm and the PPD Awakened Division has been looking into Nictus and Council activites in the city, as well as getting closer to reformed Nictus Tiger Dark.
Under Watchful Eyes: The PPD are keeping an eye on Storm Sapphire due to his friendship with The Tormentress, as he tries to prove that he can be friends with a known villain, but still remain impartial.

Last night:
When trouble arose, Zortel called in some of the Unity Vigil, and BowFire, Moon Path, Kanae, Arachidamia, Dark Stone and Tigergirl answered the call, along with assitance from The Grav Mistress. Two important negotiators had been kidnapped by a Malta Cell, and the powers that be had called in the Unity Vigil to rescue them. Upon discovering one of the negotiators was a Traditionalist Rikti, BowFire asked for a moment in private with the Vigil Commander, and asked to be exempt from the mission for personal reasons, which Zortel granted. Briefing the group on the enemies they would face, the group departed and started to make their way through the Malta's first base, handling giant robots, modern day gunslingers and Sappers with ease, and rescusing the US' Negotiator. Finding the location of the other negotiator, the Unity Vigil set off to a still ruined part of the city, Pebble Square, to battle their way through Zeus Titans and Malta Operatives to rescue the Traditionalist Rikti. After some communications difficulties, they were able to get her (Or him, or hir, or hem...) into the safe hands of the government, and made their way back to Vigil HQ for a debriefing. The US President made a brief holoconference apperance to congratulate them for their work in ensuring the continuation of possible ceasefire talks, and that the members involved would be recieving medals. The President also had to deal with compliments about his tie and how his children were, before getting back to things. The Vigil commander herself had to deal with more questions about the tie, why the US president wasn't Abe Lincoln, and discovering Tigergirl hadn't been paying much attention. Calling the meeting to an end (after some discussion about who ate through a pack of 50 slices of american cheese in one sitting), Zorielle went home to read to her children and tuck them in to bed.

Later on, Storm Sapphire called in for assistance in Kings Row, upon coming across the Paladin on one of his rampages. Engaging in Dwarf Form to buy the surroundings some time until help arrive, he held up his end rather impressively until Fridan, The Verse and Athera joined to assist. After Fridan called in one of his robots and the aid of Alita Crane, the five/six defeated the Paladin for another day, and tended to the wounded civillians.
