Newbie: Dark/Dark defender?
Basically DDDs are the best to hit debuffers in the game.
This is mine ( level 19 at the moment )
01) --> Tar Patch==> Rechg(1) Rechg(3) Rechg(3)
01) --> Dark Blast==> Acc(1) Dmg(5) Dmg(27)
02) --> Darkest Night==> TH_DeBuf(2) TH_DeBuf(9) TH_DeBuf(9)
04) --> Gloom==> Acc(4) Dmg(5) Dmg(29)
06) --> Twilight Grasp==> Acc(6) Heal(7) Heal(7)
08) --> Hasten==> Rechg(8) Rechg(11) Rechg(11)
10) --> Swift==> Run(10)
12) --> Fearsome Stare==> Acc(12) Rechg(13) Rechg(13) Rechg(15) TH_DeBuf(15)
14) --> Super Speed==> Run(14)
16) --> Tenebrous Tentacles==> Acc(16) Dmg(17) Dmg(17) Dmg(19) Rechg(19) Rechg(25)
18) --> Health==> Heal(18)
20) --> Stamina==> EndMod(20) EndMod(21) EndMod(21)
22) --> Night Fall==> Acc(22) Dmg(23) Dmg(23)
Key powers are the debuffs ( Tar Patch, Darkest Night, Fearsome Stare ) and the AoE attacks ( TT and Nightfall ). Twilight Grasp is icing on the cake.

And is the damage competable with other builds/clases? the main weakness i see is nothing to keep people away from you. Whats the main problems, and advantages you have experienced with this char?
Keeping stuff away from you won't be a problem. With Fearsome Stare (Cone fear+tohit debuff), Tar Patch (AoE slow+res debuff) and Tenebrous Tenticles (cone Immob, small to hit debuff, slowish DoT), pretty much everything is going to stay where you want it.
You won't see big numbers damage wise, but you will see a lot of small ones. With Tenebrous Tenticles and Nightfall (a fast DoT cone) you can mow down huge swaiths of minions/lts, while firing single target blasts at the bosses.

Remember that you don't need to pair dark miasma with dark blast.
I'm finding my dark/archery (slotted early for more of a solo build with 1acc 3dam in each blast asap) really effective and I know that dark/sonic is a good combo.
I just find that tar patch slotted 3 recharge 3 slow, plus fearsome stare keeps the mobs where you want them and dark miasma is SOOOOOO easy to herd with. There is at least a 2-3 second delay on darkest night from the power activating and the effect taking place/mobs becoming aware. You can herd around corners onto a tar patch very easily and then slap them with a stare when they are bunched up.

But Dark blast does add to your surviability because of the -acc on the blasts ( especially the AOEs ).

If you have Dark blast, the slows are unnecessary.
As for herding. Try Shadowfall, dodge down a corridor full of enmeies, set up darkest night on someone at the end and run back to the beginning. You get a huge pile of enemies and they generally don't hit you until you get round the corner. Tar Patch the corner, open up with a fearsome stare and then start blasting, priceless!

And vice versa imo. Spending 3 slots on tar patch liberates you from that "I must take dark blast because it has a cone immob and everyone tells me it synergises the most and is therefore gospel" situation and lets you get whatever secondary you want.
Personally I deleted my storm/dark just before 20 because the dark blast graphics and sounds are just.. frigging.. awful.
Hi all, new to the game and tried out a couple chars, blasters and controllers, not keen on melee classes. After playing a fire/ken char, i got so sick of the aoe, and no instant damage, as well as lack of offensive ablities. an Energy/energy blaster was more fun, but felt rather weak, and found my self missing transfusion.
After looking through everything else a defender Dark Miasma/Dark blaster has caught my eye. A nice range of high damage offensive abilities, it seems, and some nice support(including +heal) and debuffs from Miasma. Any comments whether this makes sense as a build, and how it compares to other classes/builds would be much appreciated!
Based on the imput of this char ill make my decision on which to play properly with. (This or a ice/ener/ener blaster)
