This is a story based on actions that are part of a Roleplay plotline.
The Hunt for Requiem: To Search A Thousand Worlds
And would fit in well with the following thread, stories of this weekend:
The War Against Requiem

This is a long term open RP plot played out ingame, a focus point being the GG crowd.

It’s an adaptation of a game Story Arc.
Requiem is out to destroy the multiverse and it’s pretty likely he’ll succeed unless stopped, so.. being heroes and all, we band together to do just that.
Gathered under the guidance of Doctor Sebastian MacAlister ‘Temporis’ (Doc T, in short )

For weeks now (closer to a month) heroes have been pestering Requiem and his forces, shutting down vital and less vital operations of his in Paragon, around the world and in other dimensions

And now Requiem has had enough: he strikes back...

A long day…

Sitting back in the magical hot springs of Mileena’s pocket dimension with an arm around her sleeping fiancée, an exhausted Jessica van Steenbergen lets her mind wander in hopes of getting some sleep herself.

“Wondrous things, these magical baths of Milly’s: the magic keeps the water warm, speeds up the healing process and helps revitalize it’s occupants.” She though and added with a light smile “and these floatation cushions keep you from slipping under while sleeping.”

“Where did it start”, she wondered. “Probably as I was prepping a team to investigate a mass exodus of a council base… Hikari and Lyn, it was great seeing them again. Alfred and Kit, a gentleman and his, well, rather feral lady. And Veskit… a good team, should be no problem getting to the mystery of that base.” With a sigh she let her memories be played out again: “A call for help came, to stop an assault planned by Malta. Investigate, or stop assault… I hope I made the right decision as we rushed to Shadowe’s aid. There was a giant titan robot in the are: A Kronos Titan. Popular items, those Kronos Titans... the Malta has some, probably want more, Lyn wants one, Kit wants one, Shadowe wants one too. I must try to get some in time for Christmas, I’m sure Zori would love to have one too. Getting to it wasn’t all that hard, fighting it... a bit harder, that thing really is tough. Loosing one’s footing and falling on my rear as it was coming down... Lucky this new armour Ellie gave me is a lot sturdier or I’d be a pancake...”

And afterwards.. Shadowe wasn’t in good health, try and get that past Hikari... seems he needed energy or something. Hiki let him drain from her, maybe not the best ideas, but then again, that was Hiki’s field, rather then mine. As he was doing so, it felt almost like Shadowe was forming a blackhole of sorts... right up to the point where he disappeared with an explosion... Lucky for us I had placed a shield around them, lucky for Hiki she had her own protection.
Alfred said he could still sense Richard’s mind, so he was probably still ‘ok’... We moved, of course, didn’t want to be caught in an implosion after all. Hiki was exhausted, as one might imagine, so I shared some of my energy with her, that and Alfred’s ever present chocolate, she was starting to feel better again.
And then Richard returned… not sure how, but he came back… without any clothes. I’m still not entirely sure if I regret the tree being in the way, or if I’m relieved.. ah, no matter.. at least now we know which gender Lyn’s interested in, I can’t believe she shouted at him to “take it off” after he put on a bathrobe Kit gave him.

Shifting a little as Ellie leaning against a nasty bruise was starting to become rather uncomfortable, she smiled apologetically at her sleeping fiancée. “Sorry, love, I should have let you know I was out missioning again but I didn’t want to worry you, and by not letting you know, I caused you to worry even more… This business with that contract on my life.. I hope we can resolve it soon, it’s wearing us both thin. Luckily we have safe havens like this where no assassin can enter.”

Jessica sat still with her eyes closed, trying hard to not consciously acknowledge the images running across the eyelid theatre: Sebastian, down on the ground in a very bad shape; Ellie absorbing and redirecting energy from his damaged power cell; the wormhole she herself held open for Sebastian; Sebastian exploding inside a containment field; Mina crying over the loss of her father; Ellie consoling Mina that he always came back, Molok saying she should steel herself for the possibility that he might not…

Jessica rest her head against Ellie’s as she went on to the next set of events: Requiem’s retaliation. “I knew the Council had a lot of troops, but the sheer number of what just one faction managed to throw at us, it’s mind boggling. As Circe reported portals opening around the world and all over Paragon, Ellie and I decided to go to Peregrine, a moment’s doubt as Terra Volta was also a prime location to hold.. But others already switched their destination to help out there. Ellie had called in support from the Peacebringer army and minutes later we arrived at Portal Corp.”
“Upon arrival, after the initial greeting at gun point, I was put in charge… Sometimes it’s not convenient to have a good reputation, but still, until someone more qualified showed up, it was up to me to keep things together.”

Jess sighed at the memory. “And I thought leading a 16 man team was hard… it’s nothing compared to the strain of commanding a full scale battle, developing situational awareness over the front line was hard enough, keeping tracks of what went on in the rest of the zone next to impossible. I was really glad when some of the Peacebringer commanders showed up and helped out, too bad they decided that a change in leadership at that stage would lead to more chaos…. Why am I thinking about this like I’m telling a story?” she frowned lightly.

More images flashed over Jessica’s eyelids as she went over the battle.
The command table: the front desk of a Portal Corp office, a map of Peregrine spread out over it, flags marking known positions of both their and Requiem’s forces.
The flashing seen in the sky from the window as Bright and Dark Nova’s from both sides battled it out up high.
The big explosions from kamikaze blasters: granted stealth and sent into a dense group of enemies, and teleported out after setting off a nova blast.
The look of confusion on those heroes that were just returning from other dimensions. The confusion turning into determination, especially those that had just returned from the Council Empire dimension.
The red and purple flashes of Quantum Array Cannons being deployed by both sides.
The coming and going of superspeeders bringing information as backup to the radio team that was struggling to keep up.

A shiver went through Jessica as the memories of Ellie being gunned down ran through her mind. Their link letting her know her love had fallen long before observers could report. She recalled the surprised look on one of her adviser’s face as she ordered Team Delta to assist Ellie’s team.. a second later, realising this would put Team Beta at extra risk, she ordered them to retreat from their forward location, thinking: “I’m not cut out for this…”

She still remembers every word of what came through Team Delta’s radio, despite being more focused on leading the rest of the defences: “Delta is encountering heavy Quantum resistance, good thing we’re not Kheldians.” … “We have a visual, Team Alpha IS down, relaying coordinates for teleportation…” … “That’s nearly all of them, but we can’t hold this position much lon… what the …?” the next few words being drowned out by a loud blast. “Alpha Leader just got up and blew the <beep!> out of them! Moving in to finish the extraction…”
And the relief felt from the simple words in her mind “I’m OK.”

Many more images blurred together, split second decisions, discussions with the advising Kheldian commanders, a fleeting memory of Earl Grey tea?
Until the imposing and reassuring arrival of General Hammond with the Shadow Shard reinforcements. “These are the first, more are on the way, but will take a while” he said as about a hundred battle hardened soldiers marched right through the command centre.

For no apparent reason, Jess’s mind switched to story telling mode again, who was she talking to? Her fiancée in her arms? Her Kheldian in the back of her mind? A figment of her imagination? Herself?
“Was I ever glad to see them, with their help we were able to stabilize a front line AND ensure that more civilians were evacuated safely. After about 10 minutes of observing and getting to know the situation, General Hammond offered to take command… you’ve no idea how relieved I was to grant him that. He took command and for a while I stayed and helped him as an advisor, not that he needed much help, mostly just current situation things and such.”

Jessica’s head started to sink into her pillow, sleep was getting close as she continued. “After a while, I decided to be more useful, I joined the battle outside… it was much, much more intense then it seemed even from the command centre… I can’t remember how many fireballs I’ve thrown, how many blasts my shields deflected… how many hit… Empaths are great to have around, but even they can’t heal everything…” She scratched absentmindedly at the edge of an other bruise. “I can’t really remember when, but at one point I was teleported out. Reinforcements had finally arrived, allow those of us that have been at it since the start to rest. Good thing too, I was tired before this started, I’ve gotten past the point of exhaustion… And now here I am, resting, hoping for sleep, to recover enough to be able to help again.”

A vague but familiar voice whispered in Jessica’s mind: “Sssh, now. It’s alright, you’re sleeping, get some rest.”

Thank you

First time I experimented with two seperate time forms at the same time (that took some time to time it right, ok I'll lay off the time jokes, sorry!)

As I said, I usually write in one time, either it's happening now, or it happened some time ago.
I'm very happy with how this experiment turned out
