You mean the pet window? You can enable or disable it in your options. Also you won't actually be able to control your Fly Trap like a MM pet.
As for any hints, get and 6-slot Strangler and Seeds of Confusion as soon as you can. Along with Carrion Creepers, they will be your most important control powers throughout the game. I also really recommend Skewer from the secondary, it's a quick melee attack that does good damage.

I slot mine 3 hold/confuse, 2 acc, 1 recred. Coupled with hasten, I get some nastily fun control powers.
Slot your thorns powers for the damage, but your plant powers you want to be accurate, long lasting, and as close to perma as possible IMO. Makes teaming and soloing all the easier than if you go for damage.
I wrote a plant/thorn guide here not so long ago, Idris & Seriphos advice is good.
Seeds I have slotted 3 ACC, 2 Confuse, 1 Recharge. The 3 acc for PvP since it has a nasty -20% debuff for being an aoe(cone) attack. It is your most important power and must hit.
Any Dominator's single target Hold should be 6 slotted, this is a mainstay, I have gone for 2 ACC, 3 Hold, 1 Recharge on Strangler.
I have:
Strangler slotted 2 Hold, 2 Acc, 2 Recharge
Seeds of Confusion is 2 Confuse, 2 Acc, 2 Recharge
Creepers is 3 Recharge, 2 Acc, 1 Slow
And those are, indeed, your 3 main domination powers without question. I respecced out of Spore Burst early on, and just recently dumped Spirit Tree as I almost never used it. That, along with dropping Thorn Burst, allowed me to take Heal Self and Aid Other(?) from the Medicine Pool.

Why is there pet controls? i'm guessing its for the Fly trap pet? but isn't it a lil "early" to even have pet controls? or is there something i appear to be missing entirely?
Only asking since i started one 30 mins ago and found it weird to see those controls at this early lvl, not to mention it makes me want to have a pet
Also however, regarding enhancements slots or powers do any experienced plant/thorn dominators have any suggestions for a rookie like myself?
