The dance club Pocket D isn't exactly the kind of place where you're likely to run into a goddess. Well, dance clubs are full of goddesses, really, but just the regular loose blonde variety, not the Egyptian immortal variety. Nonetheless, the sky goddess Nut has found herself there over and over again. Perhaps because the music soothes her. Perhaps because she has come to be friends with the patron War Witch. Perhaps because the sight of heroes and villains mingling pleases her. Some, or none of the above.
Tonight is another night that Nut finds herself on the upper balcony overlooking the dance floor, looking over the ravers in a detached manner beside War Witch. "He seems very occupied with a quest of his own. I cannot impose mine on him as well."
"A man like him has to be in high demand", War Witch sips her coffee thoughtfully. "If Doctor Temporis can't help you find a means to get back to your home dimension, we'll simply look for other solutions, right?"
"I have time to wait", Nut places her hands on the railing and leans forward a little, watching the Council vampyr hit on an eidolon. "I have watched millennia go by. If there is anything you learn as a god, it is patience."
"If you are a god", War Witch says matter-of-factly without taking her eyes from the dance floor.
"What do you mean?" Nut's eyes narrow a little, with a bit of electricity crackling in them. "I am who I am", she insists.
"You could be insane", War Witch continues, still blunt and unemotional in tone. "Delusional. Fabricating this entire story about being the ancient Egyptian sky goddess. Your aura is different from any ancient deity I've met."
Lowering her head a moment, Nut ponders the words, allowing the electric build-up in her eyes to subside gradually. "Perhaps you are correct, War Witch. I could merely be insane. But then, how would you explain my magics?"
"Latent subconscious reality manipulation?" War Witch says, then after a moment, shrugs and glances over her shoulder at Nut. "You could be making the world conform to your view of what it should be." Pause. "It's a possibility."
"And do you believe this...possibility?" Nut asks.
"I neither believe nor disbelieve", War Witch says. "On the topic of magic, it is important to keep a mind open to all options. Sooner or later, we will find out."
"Sooner or later", Nut agrees with a slight nod. "Sooner or later, I will breach the wards separating me from Heliopolis and find out what - or who - is keeping me from it. Sooner or later."
