They'll _always_ fire nrg torrent into your herd, always use explosive blaste when you have a nicely packed mob and always push the EB-/Boss away into another mob with power push/power thrust.
They have those powers and they fire them. Anytime they're up. Slotted for knockback.

Don't have torrent or Explosive Blast, but i do love my Power Push.........who loves Power Push? Shnyet loves Power Push, is it true? mmmmmmmhhmmmmmmm!
Oh and i always fire Power boost before my Nova, hence doubling the KB distance..........ftw!!11!

powerpush and all knock back is good, as long as its within team, if the teams chaos and destroy everything-wade thru them, great, then its cool, if its controlled were under the hammer we need to focus to even have a vague hope of survival the chaos doesnt work.
however power push is one of the best powers on the planet, its almost as good as air super, but not quite, after all nowts that good other than the godlike itself

My tactic is to make sure I get the aggro of powerful bad guys so that if the weaker enemies leave for your other teammates, you wont have much hassle. Also, I plough through it, because I can use consume to get more end if I need it. 
When I tanked with Rooks (and this we're talkin pre-i5 here kids, tho i've done it post-ED with few problems) I never had a "plan" or used "tactics.
I'm a tank, I mash, therefore I am.
However, I guess looking back now I had a sort of subcontious method:
TP into big mob (if it was too small, it wasn't worth the effort 
, and I would just baywatch my way in 
) hit the Tanker friendly Build Up button (oh how shiney my BU button is 
) then Tremor, and spam taunts + use the Punchvoke-esque thing that was around before i5 arrived, which only Phil + I seemed to know about (I saved his squishies, i.e. SR scrappers 
) + poked all different targets with my many, many attacks, except maybe stack a few on the boss, if he was being really annoying, or insulting me on the forums ("Tanks are no longer necessary" etc.), then he would be given a more aggresive pummeling than just 1 Stone Fist .
I rely on my many many attacks more often than taunt, as taunt was nerfed so bad i only spam it on a mob which i may believe to me locked down on me, but a pesky squishfest a.k.a. /SR scrapper is prodding the boss, or, of course, any ranged straggelers I either can't be bothered to walk up to, or can't be bothered to Hurl a Boulder at.
A public service announcement for all those Rock tanks out there with a ridiculous number of attacks

i find the best way of tanking these days is to use my head a bit more, and think of my tatics before hand, and to pick the mobs im gonna fight and not let them pick me, take in my surroundings before i enter combat, last thing u want is to engage a mob and have the boss round the corner.
yep thats one way to deal with it, the other way is just to go with the knockback flow, let chaos reign and run with it, its much more fun than standing back and yawning waiting for the tank to 'herd'.
