How is it compared to other tanks?
I only have a Fire/Fire tank so it's hard to make a direct comparison. However, at level 44 I'm soloing in unyielding and teaming on invincible. I've tanked quite a few +3 AVs without face planting, with support of course (well there was that one time when I didn't see Malaise... 
).
I would definitely recommend teaming until you've got a SOs and a few attacks or you may find things slow going at first.
Edit:
Don't forget to get acrobatics..the lack of KB protection can be annoying.

OVs right, Good resists, and very good AoEs make a Fire/Fire Tanker very good, Having mine at lvl 50 makes me a want for drecking sumtimes tho O.o

at low lvls fire/fire is hard work ,i found i really took off in the 30s when i got all my powers worked out and fighting pool for those bonus resists.
cant say i have played post i6 much but they are a fun fun AT to play , if you can get away from the "drek engine " taunts form certain memebers.
teams need tankers less now post ED , but if you get a good buffer you can stand there all day.

a lot say it isnt worth getting now and i would tend to agree with them (tho i havent respecced out yet), along with hasten wich i still have 6 slotted with SO giving me a down time of 45 secs ish.i find hasten a must still to get consume and healing flames recharging to a usable level.
