Part 4: Freedom?
----------------

The flight ended, and the Crimson Fox found herself with her new partner the Grave Mistress on what turned out to be Fort Darwin on Mercy Isle, of the Rogue Isles.
The payment for the flight soon became evident upon talking with Kalinda.
Chores, chores to determine their worth and to further this Arachnos’ agenda.

The resources of this ‘Arachnos’ could probably help to advance their own agenda. So after repaying their debt, they stayed.

Carving their way through traitors, rivals, diseased fools and snakes, the two soon earned some standing with Kalinda.
However, having been sent to clear out two bases that had been overrun by Hellions, the first doubts about this Lord Recluse, and his Arachnos his organization reared it’s head. Because they were not in a position to do anything about it, yet, they decided to keep their eyes open. They didn’t want to become victim of mismanagement and might be able to take advantage of it in the future.

During the course of the tasks, Crimson Fox got to know the Mistress a little better. It turned out that the one she was after was in fact one of the protectors of the ‘Peacebringer’. Their goals seemed to coincide more than it had appeared at first.

Word that a spy for Longbow was in the area, Crimson Fox and the Grave Mistress thought it a good idea to have a little chat with the man. After all, he must have some information on what was going on in Paragon, perhaps even on their targets.
The Spy had purchased the protection of a bunch of Hellions, at least now a few dozen more did that name justice…

Left alone with the spy, Crimson Fox started asking questions…

He knew nothing of interest. He was screaming the truth, Fox was sure of it. She herself had screamed silently with him, only the need for answers kept her scream silent. And it had been in vain. The spy had no knowledge of Paragon more recent then her own, and no knowledge of the Peacebringer Eloise Smith. At least that was something, she wasn’t such a high profile ‘hero’ as Fox originally thought.

The Grave Mistress offered to do the interrogating for now. Fox was grateful, the questioning didn’t sit well with her. But she would do what was needed to avenge her family.

True to her word the Mistress interrogated the second spy they caught. Waiting outside, she could still hear the screams. Flashes of the previous spy ran through her mind. She almost missed the Family Gangster’s approach, he certainly didn’t notice her. The gangster walked up to the door from where a blood curdling shriek erupted.
Readying his machinegun and getting ready to bust the door down, he suddenly stopped and stared in wonder at the sword that was sticking out of his chest.

As Fox was dragging the corpse away, the Mistress stepped through the door. The smile on her face was the only thing that wasn’t there before the interrogation. Not a drop of blood, not a hair out of place… yet there were still sounds coming from behind the door that Fox didn’t want to think about.

The Mistress had more success. Even information on the Peacebringer. It seems she’s gotten into some trouble with some of her protectors, might even be enough to drive her away from this ‘Cirque de la Lune’… sounds like a bunch of lunatics, but still, a lone target is an easy target. Especially if it doesn’t hide.

The Mistress knew more, and was enjoying that knowledge, Fox would get that later. She had time for now. She would allow The Mistress her little secret for now, she seemed to be true enough on her word.

Eventually, after a busy first day, The Grave Mistress and Crimson Fox went in search of a safe place to spend the night, preferably more if it was needed.
After some searching they found an abandoned, rundown apartment which they entered through a skylight window.

The place had been cleared out, completely devoid of furniture, except for a run down bed that clearly didn’t fit through the door. It even had running water, though no hot water. It mattered not, a cold bath can be invigorating.

The Mistress offered Fox the first bath, and heated the water with her magic. While Fox tried to cleanse the filth from her body and mind, the Mistress turned her magic touch to the rest of the apartment. She even conjured up a towel for Fox.

As Crimson Fox got dressed, the Grave Mistress completed her inspection of the apartment and conjured up some basic furniture. Even the kitchen was functional enough, though it lacked any food or supplies.

Crimson Fox offered to go out for them, and to keep an eye out for a fence. They needed cash, and some gems they ‘found’ would fetch a tidy sum. As Fox fastened her hood and veil before climbing the rope back to the roof, the Mistress had walked into the bathroom. She commented on the state of the water, that Fox must have needed that bath.
She responded that she had been worse… outside? yes, inside? no.

With that she climbed the rope and was on the streets of Port Oaks in no time.

This is as far as we've gotten.
I don't yet know if this is the final part. Maybe it is, maybe it's not... we'll see...

Ah... that brings it up to the end of Grave's story, and I must say, it was the best part so far!!

Looking forward to some further activities of our little duo... Who knows... Maybe soon they'll figure out a way to sneak into Paragon and REALLY have some fun...
