In the year 1985, Zachary Jensen was a brilliant scientist; his specialty was body and mass technology. He received several awards for his work and was praised by the citizens of Paragon City. Although Zachary was working hard to create new ways to cure diseases, he had a side project going in a secret lab. He had the theory that shadows generate a lot of energy because of its dense mass, and was trying to create a machine that would allow him to extract the energy from the void of shadows. This project had been under way for a long time, but no actual progress had been achieved. One night, Zachary decided to make a radical change to the machinery, increasing its output of the void generated by 400%. If successful, it would mean a new power source and the end of pollution and power shortage as we know it.
Zachary brought the machine online December 1985, the void was generated and its black and purple colours started to fill the lab. The generator worked, the output of the power was enormous enough to power a small country, and that was just the beginning. Zachary increased the complexity of the void but something went wrong, around the 600% increase mark the void collapsed, disappearing in a purple flare, the machinery stopped. Silence filled the lab, as if all existence had stopped and then came the aftershock, black energy coursed out into the lab and engulfed everything either disintegrating it or simply crushing it into oblivion, except Zachary. Somehow it entered his body and absorbed his energy, confined it self to his shell and the void disappeared, all that was left in the lab was Zacharys body lying on the floor in a room with charred walls.
6 days later, Zachary was put to rest in holy soil as meant by the lord. Paragon city was in grief, for they had lost a great scientist in such a tragedy that could not be described. The cemetery that Zachary was buried in was raided the day after by the Vazhilok leaders and many corpses were taken for processing, including Zacharys coffin.
The Vazhilok took the coffins to their hideout in the sewers and their Mortificators begun processing the corpses, although they didnt know what awaited them. Zacharys coffin was opened as the last one, when the Mortificators looked inside all they could see was a shadowy mass coursing trough out the coffin. Baffled by this they called upon their colleagues, suddenly the shadows seemed to confine themselves to one area and a body started appearing in front of them, the skin was charred black and the eyes were glowing purple as if they were only a void, in a second shadowy hands flew from the coffin left and right, pummelling the Vazhilok leaders. One tried to run but were met by a soothing voice as the corpse arose from the coffin: And the darkness shall befall all those who oppose as he turned from the coffin and ran but a few yards the corpse appeared in front of him and drained his life-force with a single grasp in the air.
Somehow Zacharys body had been kept, his mind intact yet haunted by images of shadow and death. Shrieks rumbled throughout his mind and body but in a way that was soothing and empowering, they had become one. Zachary knew that he could not return to his old life, and even so didnt want to, he had the chance to change the world by doing good by those who practice evil.
Zachary exited the sewers and begun his quest for justice, redemption. He knew he would need to leave his name behind, thus taking on the name Zach Shadowfire, for the shadow engulfed him as fire. People in Paragon city now refer to this hero, this bringer of justice and redemption, The Dark Seraphim, an angel upon earth.
