Fire is great. Sometimes it is good to make something different and give yourself a change. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
Fiery Aura may take some getting used to, but it can be effective. You may have to slot carefully to avoid serious end problems that might happen from running several toggles + SM being somewhat end heavy, as I understand, but it can be good.
Also, SM seems to fill in the gap for mitigation that makes FA problematic for some. I say give it a go.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

/Fire is fun. You should try it if you have already 6 /WP.
I was a bit like you : i had only 3 lvl 50 brutes and they were all /WP. So it took me some time to get used to /Fire on my SS/Fire, but once I did it was alot of fun !
Pros for Fire :
- The damage aura is great as it grows huge with Fury.
- You have consume to fill up your endurance bar, its cooldown is a bit long however, so you should get a good frankenslotting in your attacks asap as Stone/ is very endurance hungry (even more than SS !).
- SM double knockdown with both Fault and Tremor is great for mitigation and give you some time for Healing Flames to recharge.
- A second build up with Fiery Embrace !
- And Rise of the Phoenix is aloooot of fun ! I love this power (some people don't though...).
- And ofc 90% Fire resist = the farmer's paradise on pure Fire dmg maps.
Cons :
- Fire can be a bit squishy sometime, but nothing you can't work out with IOs.
- You need to fill the KB and immob gaps (unless you think that Burn can do the job against immobs) : so take one or two KB IOs, and take CJ also. I forgot to take CJ at first when I planned my SS/Fire using AS/Fly and it was painful^^
I know, I guess I just like WP a lot. 
6 WP's? go /FA, then. =/
On the other hand SM/WP is a great combo too, and both synergize very well.
SM massive AoE knockdown gives you some time for your regen to tick, and WP quick recovery helps alot your primary which is very endurance hungry.

I love WP, but I've made like 6 WP chars since it came out, and /Fire is good too. Thoughts?
