                                                                                          I know this looks odd, but I was thinking today if I dropped the sixth slot of most of my attacks, which would only be useful 20% of the time, I'd free up slots for more sets in other powers and a few slots that I'd just like to have (i.e., 3-slotted fly). So, oh mighty number-crunchers, what do you think? Am I crazy? Am I on to something here? Is this a viable build?

Hrm ... you intend to use hover in combat I take it ?
Not sure if you can fire off ground based AoE spells while hovering .. ie. Fire Sword Circle.

I'd probably go with Combat Jump, but that's my preferred travel power, so I might be biased.

Listen little missy, they're powers, not spells :P

All joking aside, yes, you can absolutely use Fire Sword Circle in the air. Just like you can use Typhon's Edge in the air. I like the build, it's different, and different is good in my eyes; however, it is not something I would try. Here are a few random reasons:

You will probably have Endurance issues, which is something that is never fun when you are the primary damage supply for a team. I've never liked Blazing Aura, I just don't think it's worth the trouble, and the animation is ugly as heck. Bonfire is very situational, and you seem to have your guy slotted to handle all the situations it would be useful in without it. You are sporting a Blapper build, with many power choices that only do damage when a foe is at melee range. Bonfire prevents those foes from entering that range, see what I mean? I'd take the slots out of Rise of the Phoenix. Yes, you are a glass canon, but you shouldn't be dying THAT often. If you are you may need to rework your build. Oh, and change the Aegis IOs you slotted in Fire Shield with standard Resist. IOs. The set bonuses that you get from Aegis at three slots just aren't worth it. That and the random Performance Shifter: End. Mod. IO., get the standard IO if you aren't going to slot more than one.

I think that's it. It's a great start, and with a little tweaking it'll get even better I think.

Flares is worth taking now. (if you haven't tried it since they changed it, transfer to test and check it out, or roll a random level 1 fire blaster and try it) It's not the end of the world if you skip it, just saying it's worth taking.

The Decimations are fine 5 slotted with as many accuracy bonuses as you have (you're over the cap of 5 on the 9% bonuses)

I would consider putting the 6th slot back in the 4 instances of Obliteration you have here for the melee defense bonus, since you have so many powers that you need to be close to use. Again, not of dire importance, but worth considering.

If you're going to leave the slots in RotP, I suggest frankenslotting it with Dam/Rech IOs, or even 1 Rech 2 Dam.

The way your build is set up here you will find yourself dying most often while surrounded by enemies (probably the victim of Combustion's long animation and DoT nature) in that case you will probably want RotP to kill off the stuff you already hurt before you died. Enhancing for damage will do that.

Other that what I mentioned here I concur with Kranik. It looks like a solid build that with some tweaking could be damn effective.


Edit: Noticed a couple other things.

You will want some form of KB protection. You already have Fly 3 slotted. Put a full set of Blessing of the Zephyr in there. mag 4 KB protection and ranged and AoE defense.

Replace one of the slots in Fire Shield with the Steadfast Protection Res/Def IO.

If you can't afford the Zephyr KB Protection for Fly, consider slotting Bonfire with Kinetic Crash instead of Force Feedback. Kinetic Crash grants mag 3 KB protection as the 4 slot bonus. If you do that, pull the 5th slot and put it somewhere else.

Some general comments on your build: You missed Aim. Despite the misleading power description, Aim is a massive +62.5% damage buff for Blasters, and you shouldn't skip it if you're concerned about performance at all.

You took 6 attacks before level 20. If you're levelling up with this build, you won't have enough slots to effectively slot them, and will run out of endurance very fast. Fewer well-slotted attacks > more poorly-slotted attacks. You should delay 2 of them till after 20 (I recommend Rain of Fire and Combustion) and pick up Aim instead. If you can, I'd also try to take Blaze at level 18 since it's the best single-target attack Blasters get, delaying Stamina to 22 instead.

You can't use Burn while flying - for that reason alone I'd recommend dropping it on a flying /Fire blaster. You can't toggle on Hot Feet while flying, but you can land, toggle it on and fly and it will work normally.

My philosophy is that attacks should be 6-slotted where possible, rounding out the enhancement values (most sets overshoot or undershoot in some areas - PosiBlast has anemic recharge, Obliteration has crippled EndRdx, etc). I feel uncomfortable looking at attacks that only have 40%-60% accuracy, recharge or endredux in them. There is just so much you want in an attack, without even getting into adding damage procs to boost your effective damage beyond the ED cap.

    6-slot it and add a Range common IO in the last slot. This lengthens the cone to ~55 feet (up from 40), which is quite large - I can hit nearly an entire line of Romans on the Cimeroran Wall with mine.

        Badly underslotted. You want to ED-cap (or very nearly so) attacks and damage auras, and the 3.13% negative resistance bonus does nothing for you. At the minimum I would 4-slot Scirocco's Acc/Dam/Rech, Scirocco's Dam/End, Cleaving Blow Acc/Dam, Cleaving Blow Dam/End.

          Bad. Hot Feet is a damage aura, so it should be slotted like one: Damage, Accuracy, Endurance. Also don't forget that you have the slow from Rain of Fire to stack with it. I would frankenslot this Scirocco's Acc/Dam/End, Scirocco's Dam/End, Tempered Readiness Dam/Slow, Tempered Readiness Acc/Dam/Slow, 1x Level 50 EndRdx. This comes close to ED-capping the damage and end reduction while giving you the equivalent of 1 Level 50 common IO's worth of Accuracy and Slow for only 5 slots.

            Bonfire is very situational. It does insignificant damage, the slow 3s animation makes it difficult to use as a panic button, and it's primary mitigation function (keeping things out of melee) is already served by Hover. It does have some uses - I use mine to block ambushes on speed ITFs and make portable firebases for squishies to stand in. It's thematic and a nice Lv49 power but not one that I would slot heavily, if at all.

            I'd recommend dropping this and picking up Char, which you can slot with Devastation if it's the Damage bonus you want from Force Feedback.

              The defense bonus from Aegis won't do much on its own without other sources of defense to stack if with (and even then, Fire/Cold damage is the rarest in the game). I would replace this with 3x Titanium Coating for the +1.5% HP bonus.
