Can you save my Tanker?
before ED, inv/ss was a beast in farming. Can't speak for it now. DA/SS isn't going to be too much better, but all I was saying is that it was viable. With the damage aura and a second aoe from epics, should work decently.
been trying to figure out a scrapper for awhile now, may try spines/fire.
Dark Armor is like that kid you knew in school that didn't know when to shut up, and no matter how bad he got beaten down, he got right back up again and kept on talking.
I'm leveling a DA/SS just to play the build, but if you want fast damage and big hurt check out Shields/Fire/Pyre. Mine's a beast and probably the fastest Tank I have, more so even than my Fire/Fire/Pyre.
Tanker Tuesdays: Meet in King's Row by IP Gate 6pm PT9pm ET.

Before ED Inv/SS Tankers were slightly better at farming (perma Hasten, +200% enhanced damage, triple rage, etc ...) but there weren't any APPs at the time, so you were stuck with only Footstomp as your AOE. Easy to use to farm yes ... not very quick especially when you compare them to Spines/Regen Scrappers, Fire/Fire Burn Tankers, or Fire/* Controllers and their 15 imps at the time.
there were APPs before ED, for around 6 months or so anyway. but seriously, I knew a couple guys that could clear a map quick as hell with Inv/SS, just by the sheer number of mobs they could pull at once. I used to race one on the Dreck map regularly on my Fire/Ice tanker. Granted, didnt seem like they were going as fast because they spent most of their time rounding them up, but when it was kill time, it was just insane. They only needed one AoE, when it one shot most of the mobs.

The biggest factor in the old herding days was the "stacking bug" where if you positioned yourself just right around a corner you could get as many as 200+ mobs to jump into the same physical space; then you could unload with your single target attacks... which would hit EVERY mob in that same space. I once wiped out 210 freak minion/LT's with one 6 slotted Hami-O'd (back in the days of 50% enhancement HO's) Seismic smash. Yep, I actually counted the number of "you have defeated....." messages I got. All the orange numbers froze my machine for almost 10 seconds
The way it worked was you went around the map and aggro'd/taunted the mobs, building a clump, then taunting and going for more. Once you had "enough" mobs following you you then went behind a corner and left slightly more than enough room for one mob on your side of the wall. Everything jumps into that same small spot and once they've arrived you simply unload on them. In those days it was possible to herd every mob on the main island of the Dreck map into that one small space... we're talking about issue 3-4 here.
Of course all this is academic now; you can't pull more than 17 mobs and they no longer stack (although I DID actually have 3 of them do just that last week; apparently there's a bug that's crept in recently). Nowadays AOE is king in farming, so the more of it you have the better. That's why /Fire Melee is so good at it.
Oh, and I don't know when APP's came into the game, but they were here in issue 3 when I started playing.
COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes
You can still get mobs to stack, it requires a little finagling and luck though. Mobs that have a resistance to moving also tend to be friendly to stacking as well (Council/5th Column soldiers, etc.).

Exactly, efficient stacking made any tank farmworthy back in the day. I sucked at it, but my gf was amazing with it. With her Ice/Fire tank on the chimeara farm (puppies and dreck had the timers on them then) she would round up a crapton of ninjas, hop into the graveyard next to a corner of the fence, and you would just watch em all fold into each other. Then came the FSC and all were dead.
I was more of a dumpster diver when I farmed *shrug*, they would stack in there, but a ton would get stuck on the walls sometimes, usually cus I was too damn lazy to give em space. 4-6 hours of farming a day, I started cutting corners.

I miss those dumpsters,
well, when I feel nostagic and run the BM farm, I make heavy use of the dumpsters.
was on an ae boss run, and they used that map, I was giddy as a schoolgirl. you could tell how was old school cus they savvied what I was doing immediately. sooooooo much fun, even when the stupid squishies jumped in the dumpsters too and died

I tried farming on my Inv/SS ... the grass grew 9mm in that time, and was considerably more interesting to watch then my Tanker.
I promptly made a Spines/Fire Scrapper
