My new favorite activity on the market is seeing just how much I can jack up prices on under supplied items.

My two most successful results:

Decimation: Acc/End/Rech (Recipe).50
Before my meddling the recipe was fetching maybe 15m per sale but there were none for sale and lots of bids. During the great meow craze I had picked up 10 of these for roughly 300k a piece. I listed one for ~34 million and waited. Sold a few days later for 40 million. †

Hecatomb: Chance for Negative Energy Damage (Recipe).50
I can't remember how much I picked this one up for but the last 5 sales were in the 140-150 million range when I entered. None for sale lots of bids.
Listed for ~200m sold about a week later for 210m.
Last 5 now shows: 150m, 210m, 145m, 150, 150m

So, fellow Ebil marketeers do you have any stories like these to share?

†- There are 10 for sale as of this post and the price has dropped back down to 15-20m Some silly person flooded the market with some just after my sale and they managed to get two sales of their own for 40m before the price crashed.

Not as impressive an amount, but during last double XP weekend I noticed at one point that there were 0 Scientific Theories for sale. I listed all the ones I had at 1m apiece. Pre-i14, it was the easiest 20m I ever made.

I rarely do this because it's not sustainable: someone will notice and dump their stock to try and soak up the profits. But price gouging is so much fun when one does get away with it.

this is the effect that the 'eebil flippers raise prices!' crew always ignore.

When the price goes up high enough the new price point acts as a magnet for listings. Think MA and commons here- prices go up because nobody wants to waste tickets on commons...until they reach the point where people think "wow, look at that- think I'll roll some commons and cash in!"

For stuff that's out there but just not making it onto the market, price drives supply. For stuff that isn't out there, the 'ridiculous' prices are entirely justified.

And while it may be very difficult to increase true supply, by which I mean the number of any given item that exists across all servers, it's not very difficult to increase the number that are put on the market. A lot of people I know, both here and in game, still hoard things, even on the hero market. When the price on something gets really high, those people become tempted to sell those things they're hoarding and have no specific plans for, and get that cash for things they know they want.

It's true. I've been doing my own little bit first-time hoarding in preparation for 2XP weekend. I am very interested to see if I don't rise to a new level of ebilness for my scheme.

Time will tell.

I've still been playing with Respec recipes a bunch that I bought for around 40 million. For those who haven't been paying attention, they recently were going for 90 and some even for 100 Million. I was the proud collector on a few of those sales. It was very satisfying to be making a ~60 Million inf profit, very satisfying indeed. For anybody wanting to jump on that wagon, as of this morning, they are back down to around 75 million each, but we'll see what happens next.

Yeah, I think I'll use DXP as an opportunity to clean out all my storage racks... Maybe THEN I can refill them in some sort of organized manner.

I was able to do this with a certain IO recently.
Picked up 34 recipes in small stacks...none over 500K each.
Painted the IO sale history to 15M (up from 6-7M) and sold the remaining 26 or 27 IOs at 20-25M each.
I think the IOs are back down below 10M now, but I'm gonna do it again, if people let me.

This AM I went on an underbidding spree to see if I could get any cheap PvP IOs. Picked up a defense one for a level with no bid history for 500k. Gladiator's Armor?
Not a great one- resist/recharge. But 500k!

Then I re-listed it for much, much, much more. =)

There were a few that I walked up the price stairs..

The two that I rememeber (now you have to understand my memory is not what it use to be) were.

TOD triple both sides I walked those up from about 5 million to about 20-25 million before someone found my niche and started to undercut the price... and then there was...

Imperium Resistance... I walked those up from 10 million to about 30 million again before someone found my niche and undercut me.

I had long since left both those area but they are the two that I remember.

I bought as many Miracles +recov (40 - 60 mil at the time), LoTGs +7.5 (28 - 45 mil) during the meow craze as I could. I ended up spending over 5 billion stocking up on them. Then more recently, I bought up over 50 PVP IO's ranging from 1 million to 80 mil each.

Now I flip the Miracles for 150 - 200 mil, LoTGs for 100-150 mil and PVP IO's for 50 - 500 mil.
