so IOs were out when I came back, and ive seen the term floating around alot.

what is it?

is it when you get the acc/dmg/rech and acc/dmg/rech/end pieces from a bunch of sets instead of going for 1 set and bonuses?

Generally Frankenslotting means to slot pieces from assorted sets into powers to attain maximum enhancement benefit. In this, you're not going for set bonuses. And it's not necessarily just the tri- and quadmods, but whatever pieces you need to get the biggest enhancement numbers all around.

It's even easier if you have a power that takes several different sets.

The thing that makes frankenslotting useful is the fact that multi-aspect set IOs give a larger total bonus than a single-aspect IO. Slotting a level 25 accuracy and a level 25 damage will give you 32% of each, but using two level 25 acc/dam IOs will give you 40% of each. Three- and four-aspect IOs give even more total bonus.

Another view: some sets are expensive (melee damage), while others are not (most stun sets). My War Macer was using Rope-a-dope's Acc/Recharge in his attacks which stun (most of the ST ones) until I was ready to buy Touch of Deaths in the attacks.

I view this as a fom of frankenslotting as well.
