3D Sound
Lately I've had the same issue with 3D sound. Some sounds are great, others are 'washed out' or barely audible. For me, Sands of Mu on 3D sound is just a bunch of 'whiffing', but if I rotate my camera angle I can eventually find a perspective where more sound comes through. Except the perspective that works doesn't make sense. I.E. facing the target sounds like whiffing, but turning the perspective to the side sounds louder.

That's an artefact of every sound card I've tried, specifically Sound Blasters. I have an X-Fi Xtreme Audio, and it used to do the same thing. The trick is to set up your system to play 3D sound, because otherwise some of the channels the game supplies to your output simply don't play, specifically side and read channels. Essentially, all you get is front right and front left.
If you have a sound card, fiddle with the software that comes with it and ensure you're set up to 5.1 or however many speakers you have, then ensure your sound card is set up to expand stereo into surround. Mine has two options - Stereo Expand and X-Fi Expand. That'll ensure you catch all sound channels.
I'm not sure what you can do if you don't have a sound card, but you should have some kind of control software with your card anyway. Most motherboards I've seen that come with an onboard sound card use a Realtek Control Center that you can set these up in. I'm not sure what you'd use on a laptop, but there has to be some kind of at least third-party programme to expand your stereo.

I'm running my laptop through my home theater system. I switched on 3d sound and it has really enhanced a lot of the sound fx, but for some reason enemy attacks and the finishing sounds of a lot of my own attacks are barely audible with 3D sound turned on. I.E. the kerplow noise at the end of super strength attacks. The initial noises are there, but not the complete sound.
If I need to explain it more clearly, let me know. Its hard describing noises.
Anyway, what needs to be done to give me the full sound? There are only 4 sound options as far as I've seen, and I've played with all of them. The only way to get full sound is to have 3D sound off which is a bummer because turning it on really makes my subwoofers rock.
