My DB/WP

This is one of the projects I have going. As with all of my melee characters, my goal is to max out their speed/recharge potential to do more with their stronger attacks first. With both Predator badge and Time Lord accolade, I'll achieve perma-hasten with this build. I'll be using Ablating Strike every other attack, so I placed a To-Hit there to keep it active throughout the fight. Blinding Feint will be my second main attack so I placed a build up to juice up my attacks. So here it is:

Question: Are combos really that important to DB?

50 Acher/MM Blaster - Dark Reiver

Combos aren't critical. The best middling recharge DPS chain is Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals Combo, but you can do better at very high levels of recharge.

You're still not at those levels of recharge, though, or at least not on a continual basis. Power Slice has a cast time of 1.03 seconds, which is an Arcanatime of 1.188 seconds. To chain without gaps, Ablating Strike would need to recharge in 1.188 seconds. It recharges in 1.86 seconds. That's a substantial, DPS killing gap.

Also, even if you didn't have the gap, there's no reason to even USE Power Slice. Sweeping Strike is a better attack, and can be made to recharge fast enough if it doesn't already.

Anyway, my suggestion is to either go all the way (you'll need something approaching 200% global recharge plus more recharge in Ablating Strike), or back off to Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals. On a Willpower, I don't think going all the way is going to be practical, as it's barely achievable on Super Reflexes with +20% from Quickness. So I guess I'm suggesting that you use the Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals chain (i.e., Blinding Feint -> Ablating Strike -> Vengeful Slice -> Sweeping Strike). That has a much lower recharge requirement, and Willpower doesn't really benefit from recharge anyway, so that should free up some space in your build.

Hmmm. Switching from chance to damage to acc/rch decreases AS to 1.7s. Adding the 17.5% recharge from day jobs will drop it to 1.6s. Not exactly fluid, but will have to see how that works out.

Is the BF-AV chain possible using regular IO's or is that just not possible? I've been having great luck just using the Sweep and AV combos back to back w/out Hasten...they recharge by the time I come back around to them...the problem is that I want to add some other powers and I can only do this if I drop some Primaries...

It's possible, but you'd need Hasten plus a lot of recharge in Blinding Feint, and you'd slow down when Hasten was down. Probably better to go Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals -> Power Slice. Blinding Feint needs +86% recharge, Sweeping Strike needs +71% recharge, and Vengeful Slice needs +52% recharge. Rather than use Hasten to get there, I would frankenslot the attacks. It doesn't cost much more than regular IOs, and just takes a little more work at the auction house.

Thanks Werner! Sounds like a plan to me. What would you recommend to start with for these? I really wanna start getting into the sets but I've just had a hard time figuring out where to start!

Are you asking how to get started on frankenslotting? Well, let's just take Blinding Feint as an example. It needs +86% recharge, plus you'll want it “fully” enhanced for damage, plus some accuracy, plus some endurance. Let's say I'm at level 35 and ready to spec into that attack chain. I'll go shopping for recipes and IOs in the, say, 32 to 38 range. I'm looking for two things – cheap, and multi-aspect. So your top choice are set IOs that enhance three (occasionally four) things. And in this case, probably almost every one of them should have recharge or damage in them, since you need a ton of each. I get into “buy it now” mode when doing this, and still find it very cheap. I bid creep up on things, and stop if it gets more than I think it's worth. Double check your bid so that you don't make expensive mistakes like adding an extra 0. Generally, I'll also end up with some IOs that only enhance a couple things. I just start popping them into my build without doing much math ahead of time. Once I have three or four, though, I start paying closer attention to my targets and what it's going to take to get there. I'm going to guess that it typically runs me one to several million per attack, though I could be wrong. In any case, I always have enough influence from simply leveling up to be able to afford it. And once done, no more replacing SOs every five levels, at least in those powers.

I was actually checking to see which sets are considered worthy of the attacks in that particular chain.

BUT, the info you gave is EXTREMELY helpful...I just printed it out at work and I'm gonna start looking into this tonight!

Again, thank you, kind sir...much appreciation
