Returning to Doms

Hey all. So after lvling on blueside for a while, I've finally decided to come back to villains, mostly to try out the new dom changes. I'm having a little trouble deciding on one, though.
I'm leaning towards either ice/ or earth/ as these are the only sets that I haven't played on doms. I was also thinking about using energy assault because, well, it looks amazing now (But I'm also up for whatever has the most synergy with my primary). I'll be doing mostly teaming and no PvP. Endgame is VERY important for me, so thats what I'm most concerned about. So, which one of these primaries would be the best to use? I was just about to roll a ice/energy, but I wanted some input before spending hours leveling it.

Earth/Energy is a really good combo. Powerboost + -def etc. I don't know if energy would work as well with Ice/. If you're going Ice/ Psi is nice to pair with it.

Active (Freedom): Setna (Ice/Psi Dom), Arram (WP/KM Tank), Tesmiel (Elec/SS Tank), Astredax (Robot/Dark Mastermind), Operative Vidali (melee fortunata)

Retired (Virtue): Gaav (Inv/EM Tank), Baqra (Fire/SS Tank)

Thanks for the post. So my Ice/Nrg would be a no-go then? Is it the kb mixed with soft control like ice slick?

I haven't played this combo specifically, but I would say probably. Same reason Energy/Ice Blasters are a terrible idea.

I'm only ladylike when compared to my sister.

So I'm going to re-roll then. Is ice/psi still going to be good, even with the psw nerfage??

Psi is a better set overall now because you actually get usable attacks before lvl 38 now. It's weird having a /psi dom that's actually fun to level now. I'm feeling sorta guilty while leveling my plant/psi whenever I kill things really quickly without insps. Feels like I'm cheating.

Compared to leveling up Earth and Fire with Psi before these changes this is a breeze.

Yes, the knockback is the primary issue with using energy assault and ice control. I feel your pain, since the first dom I made was Ice/Energy. It's kind of worse now since your best DPA ST attack is power push. If you're willing to hold every enemy you're going to attack, though, you can deal with energy's knockback. You also don't need to reroll unless you want your combo to be super good. It's just that earth benefits from energy more than ice does, and ice benefits more from psi than from energy.

Ice/Psi is still good. My AoE damage went up since before I'd only ever bothered using psychic shockwave, never took psychic scream. You also get to stack -recharge pretty easily to enhance your debuff capabilities. Also don't have to worry as much about perma dom since ice/ doesn't benefit from perma dom as much as the other sets do. You also have a lot of interesting IO combos you can play with.

I was doing ouroboros missions today to try out how it was at lower levels, definitely was far more enjoyable than I remember.

Thanks for the help all. I do have a question, though. Being basically a dom nublet, it seems to me that earth/ would pair badly with /nrg as well, since it has quake (which is a lot like ice slick). You dont want to cage the mobs, because that would make quake almost useless for control. So why do those pair well together?

Stalagmites is an AoE disorient, and it can be up for nearly every group. You don't have to worry about your KB when using that.

The most important synergy is definitely power boost, though. Earth has a huge number of defense debuffs and even a tohit debuff. Power boost will boost the effectiveness of the def debuffs at the very least, making it easier to hit things. I'm not sure if the debuff affects the -tohit in earthquake, but if it does, there's another reason to take /energy. This is somewhat less useful in PvE given how everyone slots for acc, but in PvP it's very strong.

Power boost does affect -movement speed, but as far as I can tell it doesn't affect -recharge, making it less useful for ice. Everything will be at the -movement cap anyway.
