Map server disconnets
Nine times out of ten it's the router.
For a short while, try connecting by plugging the Mac directly into the cable or DSL modem. If you have no mapserver disconnects, your router is cheap and/or faulty.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it might be the router myself. Its a bit old but it seems to work for everything else I use. I suppose it might be time to upgrade. I'll try a direct connection and see if that helps. At least that way I'll know if its even worth replacing the router. Thanks for the tip.
Looks like you were correct. A strange router issue. Your note prompted me to go in and play with my router settings. Normally I just have it go through the standard detect settings automatically. When it does that it tells me I have a PPoE connection and that I need to login with a username and password. That has worked fine in the past.
However, I decided to set it up manually and uncheck the "ISP requires login" option. That eliminates the login procedure and it looks like it solved my problem. I played for a few hours with no mapserver disconnects. That's longer than I've ever managed on my Mac in the past. I'll hold off final judgement pending further play but it sure seems like the problem is solved.
These connection issues can be quite frustrating at times.
Thanks again for your nudge in the right direction. It gave me to confidence to work on it.
I'm having a serious problem with COV on my Mac. I have a 2007 version iMac with 2 gigs of RAM. Game plays fine but after brief periods (minutes) it gives "Lost Connection to Mapserver" messages and I have to quit.
I'm playing with a direct wired connection through my router. Moreover, I have PC connected to the same network and I can play on it just fine with NO mapserver disconnect messages.
I've tried playing on a clean login with no background processes running. The firewall is turned off. My internet connection appears to be fine and indeed it works just great on the PC. I have no problem accessing websites. I can play WoW just fine on both machines.
Anyone have any clue what is wrong?
