Locking up

Hello,

for the last 2 issues I have been having computer freezing lock ups that require a hard reboot of system to get it to respond. I read some of the other suggestions on this forum and ended up with a reinstall of vista and an update of sp1 and sp2. I was really hopefull that this would be the fix I needed. I am still having the lockups but they are a bit less frequent, maybe 1 an hour now. When it happens I usually get some sort of soundloop ticking and the screen freezes. Nothing short of a hard reset will get the comp to respond. Please help me.

thanks

Try lowering your Windows sceen resolution one tick and the game resolution to the same setting. For example, I lowered mine to 1776x10000 even though the "native resolution" for my monitor claims to be 1920x1080. I also run in Windowed mode, and no longer have the sound loop crashes.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Looking at the drive information, your C drive only has 5% Free space. That's extremely low. Windows alone needs more free space than that. It's also where you have your CoH installation.

Move your CoH installation to a different drive, or move as much as you can from your C drive to the External drive.

I don't like running any games from an external drive due to the lower transfer rates. Were it my computer, I'd install a larger internal drive for games only.

the drive space is a bit misleading as I had just restored my system files and for some reason the whole thing made a duplicate of itself. it is normally not that full and I just deleted the extra file which freed up over 100 gb worth of room. The drive was only that full for less than 2 days so Im not inclined to think that it is the problem, but when I first saw that post I immediatly went in search of why it was showing as full to fix it.

As for the resolution suggestion. I have usually played the game at 1300x768 and only recently made the move to the 1900x1080 res, thinking that maybe it would help since it is the native res for the desktop. neither has helped with the crashes. The window suggestion is one thing I haven't tried yet, so it'll go on my list of things to do next.
