219484 The History of Statesman - TRIBUTES GALORE!
I just played through this arc, and it was amazing. I was a bit worried as a level 17 fire/fire scrapper, but it was quite possible (although might not be great for tickets due to the ally on the middle two missions).
This is chock full of references (some of which surprised me); and most of the custom mobs are amazing (or at least giggle-worthy (I really like the minion-level mobs in the third mission; they're well designed and made me laugh hard enough that they almost killed me while I was trying to get screenies. :3 ))
5/5, and the humor's perfect. Also, the "guardians" in the last mission were amazing (and not references I was expecting).
My only beef? No Souvenir... I was hoping for a little piece of this arc to take home as a reminder. ^_^
Feedback from this weekend:
@Zoner: Great arc ... excellent custom critters, great parody. More like this please! Our little team enjoyed it a lot.
@JediZork: Very cute! The custom enemies were very pun-ny! =o]
@Mighty Paladin: Someone had way too much fun making all those puns and lampshade hangings
@Foggy Norman : pink spartan underpants
AND YOU'LL NEVER UNSEE IT.
@Death Ghost : pretty funny, good job
@Science Phreak : Cleverly done parody, sir, cleverly done. Keep up the good work!
@GodOfUselessKnowledge : pretty good
@Saber-Claw : Nice job, funny story
@Sticky McHaggis : very nice job. the story was good (and funny) as were the clues left by lazarus. i thought the custom villains were awesome, as was their dialogue. all-in-all a very good mission arc. kudos
@Ham Salad : great as always, but maybe in the last mission cut down on the number of dirtpiles
Well, that glowie sound DOES get annoying...
There were also complaints about the lieutenants in mission 4. Now they no longer have web grenade, so it should be less annoying on large teams. I also plan to expand this arc a bit once I15 goes live and shrinks my filesize a dozen percent. Statesman DID have a couple of super pals, after all...

Reviewing on a high-30s ice/axe tank, diff 2 so bosses is bosses.
DISCLAIMER - seriously, check out this guy's other stuff, it's top tier.

...yeah. Right from the start I can tell we're in for one hell of a ride. Go go pop history!
In the 28th century, has Fishcake Ninja And Friends even finished yet? Signs point to no.
Oh. So this is canonically messed up. Alright, let's have a look around.
My, that's convenient. Okay, let's see what's inside this thing.
Oh, it's that guy who broke that rock.
And then I see the captive, and the enemy faction.
Oh dear god.
The last room is about four separate kinds of hilariously wrong.
Okay Laz. I'm on board. This is gonna rock.
---
...yeah. I really really want to hear what the boss of this next mission says as he's whittled down.
Wow. What are these things I have to destroy? I don't think I've ever seen them before.
Also, all these lesser dictators look like Mikes to me. Do they look like Mikes to you, or more like Vegas?
Aw. No sendup of the final speech of The Great Dictator? I guess you're going to be really tight on space here, but even so.
These transmissions from Lazarus are completely hilarious. Nice lampshade hanging there. No, seriously, I love it.
---
I... I just...
My mouth has been frozen open in a big grin.
THERE ARE NO WORDS.
And then I see the boss of this custom faction. I think I'm going to choke laughing.
...the debrief just makes it. It just makes it.
---
But all good things must come to an end. And so must this.
I want to get to the end of one of these glowies just to see what happens.
Aw. I was hoping for like a crappy souvenir from the future or something. for actually participating in this interactive fundutainment.
Ah well, no big loss.
A genuine description? Wait, this can't really be--
Yes. Yes, it can. It's actually kind of sad. Sad touching and sad pathetic.

Storyline - *****. Never before have so many things been so wrong, yet been so funny.
Design - *****. If you don't laugh at at least one of the custom mobs in this thing then you are tired of life.
Gameplay - *****. Even on the maps where it'd ordinarily be a pain to find something, bright colorful particle effects light the way.
Detail - *****. Read the descriptions. Seriously. Read them all. The more you know already, the funnier they'll get.
Overall - *****. All it really needs is the ninja'storm mastermind who founded the museum writing himself into history to cause asphyxiation-related fatalities.

They're portal generators from a Vanguard arc IIRC.

Depends on which side of Pearl Harbor you were gunning for. They had to switch names around to confuse intel.

Well, he wasn't exactly remembered for his voice... But I'm sure you've experienced the full extent of his 'slapstick'. Then again, he DOES speak in this movie. Looks like I have some research for movie night.

Definitely after I15. I'm still waiting on that filesize reduction.

Or better yet, DON'T read all of them, so you get an inkling to play through this arc once again. Preferrably after a week, when rating permissions are refreshed.
@Wrong Number : Nice job. Especially nice work on all the customs. Your humor review will be up in a bit. WN
And here's the review. Thanks for the feedback! http://boards.cityofvillains.com/showfla...ue#Post13629049
@Tahlana : Best [SPOILERS] ever haha! Very fun, loved all the customs. The dialog was hilarious. The last mission was a little weak (maybe make it more interesting? (if you have room)) but the ending was great.
Well, I can spare a few kilobytes... (It's been topped off at 99% after this update.)
@Lazorman : Hahaha, History of Statesman was brilliant! I loved your parodies of the various minions (wow, good job cramming that many customs in!!). So many laugh-out-loud moments, like the [SPOILERS] gauntlet, haha! And I saw what you did there with Statesman [SPOILERS]! And you even managed to even mock the [SPOILERS] cliche. Well done, sir. 5 stars
@MrCaptainMan : Top banana! Really funny all round. One thing - the first debris pile in the final mission was soooo sloooow that I assumed there'd be a special prize clue drop for doing them all, so I felt a little disappointed, even with the amusing last glowie nav message. Very good arc, though. Comedy Gold. Your writing shines.
I was thinking of having them spawn a large Statesman-only ambush, but I think it might clash with the lore a bit.
@Aehaed : This is awesome! Unfortunately I had to abandon it after the second mission, but I hope to come back to this someday soon. 5-star.
You won't be disappointed.
@Katman65 : What can I say you certainly entertained me thanx and Gratz very good story.
@Archdemon : Purple text is a bit hard to read. TIEM MASHEEN still has default bio...I was expecting something funny. Overall though it was very funny, with well-designed customs.
@Boltcutter : educational!
@Noght : Big Fun. Kudos.
I recently gave this arc a sizeable update. On top of some bonus NPCs, you'll be much more involved with Lazarus' musings rather than watching him from the sidelines most of the time. Hopefully he won't detract too much from the main story.
If you haven't played this arc yet, now would be a great time! I'll need some fresh minds to see if the arc is still clear to follow and understand. Let me know what you think!
I've been meaning to try this one, but I keep forgetting. Perhaps now is the time! Londer and I will probably try it over the weekend if not sooner.

This was a very well-done story arc. The Lawd Nemesis group was clever and well-designed. I didnt see any typos. (Doesnt mean there werent any, just that I didnt notice them.) The story was amusing, and the internal story-logic was consistent. I enjoyed seeing the twisted history of Statesman. There was an A-Story (the inaccurate history of Statesman) and a B-Story (the Mender Lazarus part), something that can be difficult to pull off given the limitations of AE, but the architect managed to pull it off very well. I also really appreciated the little touches and details that were put into this story arc, such as all of the animations making it very easy to find the objectives, and all of the custom bios.

PoliceWoman's Review of The History of Statesman

This arc was surreal but fun. I waffled between giving this 4 or 5 stars. The final mission being weaker than the previous missions, plus not understanding why TIEM MASHEEN did any of this in the first place, ended up making me settle on 4 stars.
[/ QUOTE ]
Had complaints before of a more interesting final mission, but this pushed me. Hefty update tonight! Motivations are straightened out and mission 4 is conveniently relocated in scenic Detroit! But it's gonna be more than just a map change... expect things to be a lot more hectic.
If you haven't tried it yet, now's a great time to give it a whirl!
The History of Statesman
Arc ID 219484
Long (4 Missions)
Heroic
All Custom Groups
SFMA HFMA NCMA
So, I decided to give back to the game a bit by doing a tribute arc to one of the greatest and most celebrated in-game heroes of all time! Now, I'm not much of a history buff, so there might be some inaccuracies scattered here and there .
Mender Lazarus also drops by to make sense of some things so if you ever feel lost, he'll be there.
Feedback is very appreciated, it may be complete but it's not as refined as my other arcs. If you have any suggestions, comments or details I happened to forget feel free to post them here. Have fun!
