If you can afford to IO out the toon go Shield (touch of death, obliteration, lotgs). Otherwise go WP.
I have 500 mill in my ss/shield and it works wonders. But it's only good when you softcap and get super high recharge. Willpower is alot easier and cheaper, though.
I have a SS/WP lvl 45 with only Steadfast 3% def as set IO(Rest is crafted standard IO) and I'm not satisfied at all by its survivability.
I'd go /SR instead of /SD because it is easier to soft cap but endurance will be a huge issue for either.
Of course, it depends what difficulty level you're looking to play at.
Actually, I think WP might be the better set if you have a billion influence laying around.
Super Reflexes is awesome though, and underused. It does suck end like a madman. But grabbing endurance accolades and slotting for recovery and +end, helps.

Hrm. I've always used common level 50 IO enhancements thus far. I take it that's no good for SD nor SR?

Under this criteria you'll end up with:
WP - A toon that will have little trouble running on Relentless and will be a solid brute in most teaming situations, able to spam attacks and such without too much regard for endurance.
Shield - A toon that can't take as much beating as most other Brutes, will do slightly more damage than the WP one but will suck End like nobodies business, especially if you add Tough and Weave.
Note: This is with the only level 50 Common IOs scenario.
Go with SS/WP most fun i have had with a brute so far.
I want to make a new Super Strength Brute, but I can't decide between Shield or Willpower for the secondary. Any advice?
