Claws/SR: Dropping Aid Self...maybe?

Yes. The only challenges in game you might have issues with are self imposed "no inspiration" extreme challenges like the Rikti Challenge (although with Shockwave you probably won't have an issue) and soloing AVs without greens.

Unless you plan on routinely going solo against Pylons and AV's (in particular doing so without using inspires) then yes you can do without Aid Self. And if you do then I'd be asking why you have or want all 3 aoe's in such a solo focused build.

Um, I solo giant groups where the AoE is great all the time. Although I don't personally care for Ripper and don't have it, it would certainly be useful for Cimer wall grinding, RWZ grinding, and other big spawn solo opportunities.
AoE is not just for groups anymore.

Personally, I feel you can do without aid self on SR even without soft capping defense. I run around with about 30% defense to ranged, melee, and aoe. The only real regen boost I have currently is 3 slotted health since I'm still (slowl) working on IO sets. And yet, I find that I chew through things like there's no tomorrow. And if things do get a little dicey there's always elude.
The only time I really have issues with things hitting me is if I go to firebase zulu.

A quite valid point ... and if you are routinely going to be sweeping against large mobs then yes you want aoe's. I was referring however specifically to tackling hard single targets where aoe's vs single target attacks is not generally very endurance efficient. Then again if ones scrapper has never just let loose on 1 or maaaaybe 2 targets with Shockwave just cause they looked at you funny then maybe said scrapper needs his scrapping license pulled
