Why can't my pets just hold still?

I have a bind that sets all my pets to "Stay" Too bad it doesn't WORK. If they're in anything but passive mode, I could hit the bind 100 times a second and they'd still be all over the place. I also have a bind where I just shift + click and the pets go to where I click...you know, unless they don't feel like it. Even if they do, they just run off again right away...no matter how much I tell them to STAY.

Is there ANY WAY to make my pets just stay where I want them to...? I just want them to stand in one spot...seriously...how can it be so complicated? I understand that if they're in aggressive mode they'll run around to get into range...but I DON'T WANT THEM TO. If they can't hit anything from there, I want them to stand there and look stupid. Why can't I have that?!

They can't do that unfortunately.

Yeah, it figures. =/

Anyway, I just made a macro that puts all my pets into "Attack Passive," so they'll take out my target and then go into passive mode. It's not quite what I want but it at least keeps them from running amok as soon as their target is defeated.

pets running all over is certainly an issue with this at. i think that's one reason why so many people fail as mm's or fail to make it to 50. they dont compensate for this by using the other available tools in the pools.

i have had my bruiser run from me - after hitting my defensive/follow bind - all the way out of range before he ran right back. it was like he was mocking me or something.

Your best bet is to Passive stance them then issue a Stay (or Goto). Wiping their agro buffer first, then anchoring them works well.

Long ago in Beta, this was asked for by many: To make Stay into a true anchor that the pets would not move from at all, that could be safely combined with stances without losing the anchor.

This might have been considered too easy for ranged pets, since you're basically creating turrets that wouldn't get themselves into trouble...instead of the MM having to keep tabs on them when they do stupid things.

It might also have something to do with pets not keeping a location stored to return to, after attempting to carry out actions in non-passive stance or after porting. They revert to follow in such cases, since the MM is the one tether they always have.

(The weakness of Stay is also a reason I didn't use it in the numpad binds...Goto is basically a targeted Stay and the more versatile choice.)
