Empathy/Archery IO Plans
Actually if you want a good set to give you some ranged defense then invest in Thunderstrike for you ST attacks like Snap Shot and Blazing Arrow. A full 6 slot of it will give you 3.75 easy and there are no unique in it. Also, if you take hover or combat jumping and have 1 to 2 extra slots invest in Blessing of Zypher because 2 slotting it will give you +3.13 to ranged and adding another slot will give you an additional +3.13 to AoE. In addition the -KB IO is not unique so you can do it again. 5 Slotting Positrons is an easy way to get 6.25 recharge bonus and healing wounds in your heals for a +5 to recharge. That just my suggestions on IOs for ya off the top of my head.
Now, I run a Emp/Son Def as my main and I really like having but loads of recharge, mainly because its fun to nuke every 2 - 3 mobs. Now with archery you can do it every mob to every other mob with alot of recharge. I'm actually thinking of making a Kin/Arch but thats another story. Recarge is great because your tools come back much faster but it you want defenses I would make your Priorities Ranged > AoE > Melee.
If you want I could make an example build or two just let me know what you want in terms of powers.

Hm. Anyone know off the top of their heads how much -recharge is required to make Regeneration aura permanent?
Don't believe its possible to perma either Aura ... close but no cigar. As far as I know the theoretical limit on the recharge (a hard cap) for any power is 500% or 1/5 the base time. Both Auras have a base time of 500 seconds, 1/5 of that is 100 seconds, they recharge in 90 leaving you at absolute best with 10 seconds gap.
That said I'm not a numbers expert so if someone who is knows otherwise ...
I know that its more then it takes to get perma hasten. According to mids you need at least 360%-375% recharge to get it perma. That is with 3 level 50 recharge IO's

Also, I have the build for that but it assumes that you have +recharge proc from force feedback and geas of the kind one up all the time..... not too likely to happen.

In the Guide to Guides section (under the "Other Combat Mechanics" section) there's a Guide written by Arcanaville on Recharge (with enough math to make anyone not comfy with math woozy) but essentially:
New (or Desired) Recharge = Original Recharge/(1+ Recharge Buffs)
or 90 = 500/(1+n) which if I'm understanding it and doing it right yields about 5.55 recharge needed ... or 555% and again if I'm correct the cap is 500 so its impossible to perma the Auras.
I can say my planned build (nearly completed) for my Emp/Rad has perma Hasten and perma AB and a global recharge including Hasten of about 182% and her Auras still have a downtime of about 40 seconds (recharge is a tad over 130 seconds). On the good side this means they are up more often than down.

[/ QUOTE ]*raise hand* I don't have a copy of Excel at home any more, so math scares and intimidates me.
So, here's my currently planned build for my Empathy/Archery defender. If it's not obvious, I'm not very keen on the idea of a 'serious heals' kind of empath, and I don't doubt for a second he'd be a weak addition to a Master of Statesman's Task Force. On the other hand, for normal PVE content, he can buff people up, then shoot away under his own steam. His endurance consumption doesn't seem to be all that bad, thanks to a large amount of end redux in his attacks, but I can't say for sure - I suspect Healing Aura will be cast a lot, so maybe it needs more end redux than recharge.
To outline for those people who don't recognise it on their own, the plan is to use Hover to remain out of reach of melee attacks, and therefore lean on a lot of Ranged Defence. This protects from melee mezzes and even from a lot of ranged mezzes too - only Dominate from Rikti Mentalists seems to ignore the defence. I can't see any AoE mezzes that aren't really corner case things, either. Plus, I have Healing Aura to top my health up if that 40% defence isn't enough.
So. Any thoughts? Any places I can squeak a bit more defence without excessive sacrifice? Any thing you'd do differently?
Okay, so I have a level 35 Empathy/Archery defender. I'm looking at him now and considering that as a level 35 character, it's probably time to start IOing him. After building a lot of dominators, I kinda got used to the assumption that there was a clear, single IO build goal - 71% recharge and change. Now I'm looking at Drawforce and wondering to myself: What the hell do I want on him? More HP? Ranged Defence? Recharge?
Recharge is okay, but it doesn't seem to earn me much. Going from 3 fortitudes to 4 is okay, but going from 5 to 7 without purples seems like a huge pain in the [censored]. The auras need a huge amount of global recharge to perma - anyone know the math on it?
Ranged defence is also tricky because the only set that is readily available for ranged defence in Empathy/Archery is Numina's Convalesence. Problem there, it's got a unique in it, so no stacking.
So what would you build an emp/arch for?

Note that right now, he has more progress on damage-received badges than on healing badges... and more on healing badges than on debt badges. So let's assume I don't need a lecture about not needing to heal.
