how do you link a account to steam that was not purchase on steam

You can't. You can set it up as a non-Steam game, which will let you use the Steam overlay and have it show up on your friends' friend lists and let them know you're playing, but you can't link it to your Steam account as if you had bought it on Steam. You can only do that with Valve games and with a select few games. UT3, Prey, Fear 2, I forget what else but definitely not CoH or the majority of other titles on Steam.

You can, however, purchase the Architect Edition on Steam, and then apply the serial code from it to your existing game account. This will link the game to your Steam account, and get you an additional month of play time and your choice of super booster for about $5 less than purchasing them separately ($20 for Architect Edition, vs. $15 for a month's play and $10 for a super booster totaling $25).

That is unfortunate. I was thinking about using steam but I often prefer to have a hard copy of my games. As I alreeady have the extra packs, it'd cost me an additional $5 to use steam with CoH for ease of updates and such.
