At last! The long-awaited (by my mom) second arc from the author of the critically acclaimed (by my mom) The Echo (Arc ID 1688).

The Audition. Do you want to join the Freedom Phalanx? Great, cos they've had their eye on you for some time! they think you've got the right stuff! You're a shoe-in, as long as you can prove yourself successful in The Five Heroic Tasks.

Do you have what it takes? Find out by taking The Audition!

Humorous, Story-focused, Heroic, somewhat challenging (at least, for my 50 en/en blaster) arc intended for SOLO-ONLY play featuring 4 new custom groups, exactly 100.00k worth of wit, drama, challenge and victory, and the now-told previously-untold story of How the Acappellaclypse was averted (as mentioned in The Echo, Arc ID 1688, available at all good AE buildings).

The Audition!

SEE! Nuns robbing banks!

HEAR! A supervillain sing!

TASTE! The sweet air of a world saved from certain doom!

The Audition. Arc ID 182289.

It's here.

Eco.

QR - I have to point out that Mission 1 contains a potentially annoying first objective, a collection. Its an outdoor map, and the collection is sometimes maddeningly hard to locate. Persevere, i implore you. I of course believe the rest of the arc is well worth it.

I've been wanting to know more about the Acapellacalypse since I first saw it mentioned in the Echo. You can bet I'm gonna play this.

I think The Acappellaclypse is my favourite mission in the arc. Its method of narrative delivery is...unusual.

I edited Mission 1. The difficult to find collection has been replaced with a much easier to find objective.

I apologize now if I seem a little blunt -- I’m running on a lack of sleep lately.

That said, there are things I liked and didn’t like about this arc. I did like your use of mobs, both customs and standard; there was enough variety without seeming chaotic, and all enemies fit well with their respective missions. As always, I’m impressed by your use of chained objectives, which must take a lot of time to synchronize properly. I also liked the subversions you used when objectives I completed mirrored Synapse’s briefings, but in a strange and unexpected way. And the general themes of things going awry was nicely handled.

However, the ending left me a little put off. After every mission, Synapse’s increasingly-tetchy comments begin to wear thin. But after saving the entire solar system, I wasn’t much interested in hearing how badly I failed. I can see the irony in this, and I certainly don’t speak for everyone -- it just wasn’t to my personal taste. Your general use of Ambushes was a little overwhelming at times, but it wouldn’t be a challenging arc if I didn’t have some trouble, right?

A few specific things:
<ul type="square">[*]The first mission’s Intro Text seemed a little awkward in places, mostly with the abundance of commas.[*]Just a suggestion, but maybe include the number of Nodes left to destroy? If this is a group of chained objectives, maybe just write in the Nav Text something like “4 Focus Nodes to destroy”, and so on.[*]Tiny little thing: Maybe remove the period from Mission 2’s Mission Accept Text?[*]Two typos in Mission 3: In the Clue for the Check Bullion objective, it says “checkj”; in Clue for the Defeat All objective, it says “theyre” with no apostrophe.[*]In Mission 4, it took me a few minutes to figure out what the objectives were. It made sense when I though of the last mission from “The Echo”, but the Nav Text was kinda arbitrary.[/list]
Again, I apologize if I seem harsh. I do enjoy your arcs, and it feels like you’re definitely on to something here. A good 4-star effort, imo.

QR - Thanks v much for playing it and for the feedback.

A lot of the issues you raise are caused by the fact that the arc is at exactly 100.00%. I edited it over and over to get it down, and the phrase 'focus noeds to destroy' repeated 4 times for example had to change to 'destroy focus nodes' - it was that tught. in the clue before they spawn, it does say '...if only I could destroyu the four focuse nodes...', but to add that four letter word I had to remove 4 characters elsewhere. I tore my hair out over the briefins and debirefings. initially, they were all a few paragraphs longer, and I think flowed better, but, well, I'm sure people know what I mean lol.

Cheers for the typo heads ups. Ive corrected them now.

Thanks again for playing. The arc was up for a week before I got any feedback at all, and it was getting a bit disheartening. I really appreciate the time and input of everyone who plays my arcs.

I've never made it to 100%, myself. My largest arc is close -- something like 99.8% -- so I almost understand the confinement. I'm sure I'd go insane trying to shuffle letters around.

In all honesty, I probably wouldn't have found this arc for a good while if you hadn't /t'd me directly. Most arcs just fly past my radar, and I might have passed this by as well if I didn't remember "The Echo" so positively.

QR - apropos of nothing in particular, I used to hate ambushes during boss fights, but now I look forward to them, as long as the minions are maneagable. It often makes thematic sense for the bosses to shout for reinforcements and can make a final boss fight a tense frantic affair - saying that, the number and strength needs to be set with some care. In this arc, i have used boss + ambushes, but the EBs have no ambushes as I feel they're hard enough on their own. I want the Player to succeed as much as they do lol.
