BS/DA: My Scranker Dream.

It took me a while to settle on what my main was going to be and after much rolling and deleting and indecisiveness concerning him Ive settled on a BS/DA Scrap.

After that was done I tried to think about the different directions you can go with DA and Ive decided to just try and maximize everything

Is the build Ive come up with.

Highlights include 15% Defense vs All (18 if I can get a Gladiators Defense) and then 7.5% ToHit Debuff with Cloak of Fear (That being the reason I chose it over OG)

What Im asking of you Scrapper Experts (And specifically those well versed in BS chains and DA IOing) is:

Is my recharge at a decent enough level that I can manage a HS -> DB -> Hack Chain, subbing Parry in for Hack when needed, or have I overdone that? (Or Underdone).

And are there any tricks Im missing for Maxing out Certain powers?

Note: The Empty slot in Health is for a Panacea Unique depending on how good my endurance is Post-IOing.

You're going to have about a 4/10 of a second gap in the chain. To pull off Head Splitter -> Disembowel -> Hack without gaps, Head Splitter needs to recharge in 3.56 seconds.

I wouldn't personally run around at 15% defense with Parry available and slotted, though. I'd chain Head Splitter -> Parry -> Disembowel -> Hack -> Parry. But that's a completely different build, as it only requires Head Splitter to recharge in 6.73 seconds.

With your stats, and if you're aiming primarily for DPS, I'd go with Head Splitter -> Hack -> Disembowel -> Parry -> Hack. Hack has enough speed for it, the DPS is only marginally lower than the chain you wanted with its gap, and you'll at least maintain a single Parry to help your defense. And then, since you're hitting Hack twice in the chain, I'd find a way to get the Achilles' Heel into it.

Well, you don't really need the AH -res proc in Whirling Sword. But you DO want it in Hack, and Gladiator's Fury in Headsplitter. You also want damage procs in every attack if possible.

You might consider relaxing your recharge a bit and aim for a

Hack > Headsplitter > Hack > Disembowel > Parry

chain for when you only need 1 Parry, transitioning into a

HS > Hack > Parry > DE > Hack > Parry

chain for when you need more defense. This will greatly reduce your +recharge requirements, which should allow you to slot damage procs into every attack, (preferably 2 in Parry), and -res procs in both Hack and Headsplitter.

That's going to be the best bet for you. While your build chains Hack > Headsplitter > Disembowel very nicely, the attacks themselves are missing a lot of juicy procs, and then the chain loses all its potency if you're just swapping in Parry for every other Hack. Better to plan for Parry being in there, relaxing the recharge, and getting the procs into those attacks.

I have very little experience with Dark Armor, so I'm not really qualified to tear apart your build, but believe me that although your chain is pretty tight with all the recharge, it's going to stop doing decent damage pretty abruptly when you start leaning on Parry. It just doesn't have the -res and damage procs to perform well under those circumstances.

I see. I wasnt sure if I was over-hitting the Recharge and under utilizing my chain.

I had the -Res Proc in Whirling for AoE -Res for teaming purposes. This is a General PvE Build with the intention of solo and team capability.

The idea of the Defense was that with the 15% Already there, its like a Free Parry. And that means I have one less parry I need to maintain and can take an Alpha better (I like to Tank with my scrapper)

Your Ideas about Procs in parry are great and completely slipped my mind and is a great Idea! I'll have to add that in.

Edit: What would be the lowest Passive Recharge and Passive + Hasten that I could have to keep the DE -> parry -> HS -> Hack chain?

Yes, but you will need 2 Parries on top of your other defense to reach the softcaps (45%) to melee and lethal and floor enemies' chances to hit you with those types of attacks.

For most PvE situations, 1 Parry will give you some very sturdy defense, especially with all your cool powers like Cloak of Fear and damage resistance and Dark Regen backing it up. In fact, I'd say that in most normal situations 1 Parry will be ample for you.

But if you maintained stacked Parry on top of all those things, you would be virtually indestructible by melee attackers or by lethal damage. So I thought it would be a good idea to plan out single-parry and stacked-parry chains that you could transition into according to the circumstances.

I'm really only an expert on BS/Shield and I don't use Parry at all unless I switch to my leveling build for exemping down pretty far, but I know that for your build, it's something you definitely want to make room for in your attack chains.

Ah, didn't see that. Basically, when fighting minions, Achilles' Heel only catches up to a regular old damage proc under IDEAL circumstances. In all other situations, a regular damage proc wins. Since AoEs tend to be mostly for minion munching, they're a poor spot for the Achilles' Heel proc. Save them for your single-target boss killing chain.

That would make sense. That means I can just shift the slot Over to Hack and have it work in there.

Any advice on Optimal Slotting for Parry for Procing?

I had a Membrane, 2 Nucleos, Mako Proc, Heca Proc and a 7.5 in there for recharge. But if the 7.5 isnt really needed Id swap it for another Proc as well for more spammable Damage.

With most of my passive Defense in CoF and possibly Defense Via IOs itll let me rely less on having parry Hit and needing to have it up, as well as getting hit really hard first thing if I miss when I leap into a group. Parry is excellent but it really is only Melee/Lethal and the IO'd defense is a 15% vs All. I eventually would like it to be 18% with a Glad Defense IO (God thats expensive) and then on top of the ToHit Debuff with CoF sitting at 7.5% Thats a possible 25% Overall Defense (Sorta) tossing a Single parry on that makes it 40% which is fairly nice initial defense with only a single parry chain.

I guess I will have to install mids on my newer comp and take a closer look. It would be really nice if there was a simple character sheet that just listed the total package.

Thanks

At this point Im wondering if I even need hasten in the build or not.

Im looking at the Chain without hasten: Parry (For Opening) -> HS -> Hack -> DS -> Parry -> HS -> Hack -> DS or some such. Itll work out in actually play. Im looking to possibly solo AVs but mostly for an excellent team Killer and something that can solo AE arcs and AVs with Minor assistance (A Shivan).

Im not sure what Id replace Hasten with, if I continue along the defense route I might get Manuevers but...thats an ugly cost for effect so Im not sure. Mebbe Hover?

I didn't take hasten on my bs/da for two reasons, mobs die fast already and the end crash can hurt.

This is what I ended up with after all was said and done. I think its more functional and I like what Ive accomplished.

This is the best build I've come up with so far. I was trying to come up with something that would support Hack-->Disembowel-->Headsplitter attack chain. I've yet to get Headsplitter to recharge fast enough, needs to be below 3.13 seconds if I understand correctly. Fastest I got was 4.1 but I'm not convinced it's worth it. A more endurance friendly version has Headsplitter at 4.3. Flip over Slice, Whirling Sword, and CoF to compare. All numbers are only achievable when Hasten us up, which as a down time of 18.6 secs.

The Downtime on hasten is actually slightly worse because when hasten ends it then has that duration without its Own Recharge Buff affecting it.

The Defense you achieve is much higher but it also trades in some things Im not sure I want to, like DPS from Parry and 2 Purple sets Id like to use for Exemplaring and having that additional Recharge bonus.

It seems to give up too much to achieve the chain that I originally wanted, but Im okay with a HS -> Hack -> DB -> Parry -> HS chain if I can manage it

I'm thinking of shifting efforts in that direction as well.

3.53 seconds will do, accounting for Arcanatime.
