Every time I write an arc, I find myself having to dumb down my story because the contact is locked from mission 1 through mission 5.
It works fine for some kinds of stories, of course, but the narrative possibilities would open so much wider if we could use new characters to bring new information and direction to the players during the course of a story. I want the contact to get kidnapped. I want the contact to show up mid-arc and betray the player. I want someone else to appear with information the original contact couldn't know about. And so forth.
I realize that there are certain kludges available now, such as making the contact a bulletin board or something, but these are pretty darn limiting as well.
