teaching myself ..

After looking around at different DA Pages I was inspired. So since this old boy can not draw worth a lick I decided to teach myself in the art of 3D renderings. I started with Daz Studio and then moved on to Poser 7, this is my first render I feel is worthy of sharing ( how ever I do not think its perfect by any means, be brutal i can take it!)

That's actually pretty good for a beginner. My main crit is that it looks like she's going to drop the gun in her left hand.

The main things you want to avoid in Poser Art:
1. Bad mesh deformation--particularly in the shoulders. Also places like the corners of the mouth (eg. the character is smiling but the geometry isn't realistically bending with the expression).
2. Bad skin. Realistic skin has subsurface scattering, where the light enters the epidermis and then is redirected before being reflected back. That's why skin has a soft look, and changes color around the edges of the figure. Often Poser work is either too dark or over lit. Or both (the character is in a dark room but washed out and brightly lit).
3. shadows. 3d apps come with various lighting setups. The most basic forms produce very crisp defined shadows. So you'll have a character in an overcast scene with hard edged shadows on the floor. Realistic shadows are generally soft and conform to the direction of the light sources in the picture.

The easiest way to solve these issues is to rough out the image in the 3d app and then do postwork in Photoshop or some equivalent.

No no, not my very first, I played in Daz for a couple weeks and then this is my first render with poser that i felt was good enough to show.
