Why are you trying to get Youtube videos into WMM? The quality will be far worse after downloading, converting and editing.

I edit mp4's with some linux tools, but the quality is horrid.
If you're downloading off YouTube (for whatever reason), see if you can find a downloader (like vixy.net) that will let you download in AVI format, at least. Then the only codec you should need is DivX.
But I agree - downloading off YouTube leads to some awful quality.

I posted elsewhere but was told to come here... so I will... because I'm impatient
Well, been looking on the net and Microsoft.com for ages and aside from a virus that I had to expunge I can't find a thing that will let Windows Movie Maker import MP4s... y'know the ones you can download from Youtube (with the right tools)...
So, my question is two fold.
1: Anyone know what I need to get WMM to accept or WMP to play MP4 files?
If that isn't actually possible...
2: Know any free video editing software that accepts MP4 files?
Obviously all solutions must be spyware/virus free
