I like that backstory and idea. Reminiscent a bit of Scirocco and his past, of a good hero turned evil due to the curse of the mantle he wears.

I've never read Scirocco's story in detail, but that's cool In case there was any confusion though, he's not a villain. He made some grave mistakes in his past and now he's out to make up for them by doing good deeds.

Oh, heh, no, no confusion. I did see the scrapper part so I knew he was good intentioned. It kinda brings out more to the character in a way that he's given something powerful, everlasting life, but in turn a consequence that he'll have to live with.
The reason I brought up Scirocco is because he was once and still is in a way a hero, he was a Freedom Fighter that stumbled across a sword of a long dead hero, and some other powerful objects. It granted him incredible power but in turn place a curse on him that forces him to do evil acts. Even though he serves as one of Recluse's Inner Circle he still wishes to find a way to break the curse a redeem himself for all the acts he's committed.
And that's where I saw the similarity between him and Heriloom. Both of them affected deeply by an object they wear.
