Pestilence looked around. There was nobody left!

Muttering in his strange, unknown way, the Chem Commando stepped out into the hallway...

And right in front of Cynic, who seemed to be in desperate need of some Gatorade. The Acidic Assailant ((I'm running out of alliterations)) looked up to find himself face-to-face with a winged female.

Rolling his neck in a terrifyingly loud manner that could be heard even through the thick helmet he wore on top of his hermetically sealed collar, Pestilence extended one arm to the girl in as menacing a manner as he could muster ((Just kidding, looks like I have more)) and tilted his head to one side. Being around six-foot-ten in the sickly green Exoskeleton Armor, covered in hoses and jury-rigged wiring that gave him his limited superhuman strength, this was actually considerably menacing.

In his fist, Pestilence held a firm grip on what was apparently a grenade of an unfamiliar make.

The pin was already gone. Pestilence let the pressure of his grip slowly relax. He was still breathing heavily through his mask from the last fight, the advanced, hand-woven and stuffed filter quietly accenting his slow inhaling and exhaling. As Pestilence almost gingerly let the pressure on the grenade go completely slack, a thick cloud of colorless cyanogen chloride enveloped the hallway in a deadly spray. A highly toxic blood agent, contact could immediately cause loss of consciousness, convulsions, paralysis, and death.

All that could be heard was the hissing gas and Pestilence's easy breathing. Under his helm, he smiled.

Kirae looked at his hand and a look of fear and shock came over her face
"b....but why...." Kirae said, touching the grenade and teleporting it, she then fell to the floor, landing on her stomach, her body went limp, she was paralised
Kirae was looking towards Cynic "w...why...?... who are......you?" Kirae asked as her wings convulsed and went limp, falling over her like a blanket
she looked into his helmet visor with her indigo eyes, this was the 2nd time she was tricked and this time she wanted a explaination

Cynic didn't respond. He couldn't due to his helmet automatically sticking an oxygen tube down his throat and regulating his breathing, making it impossible for him to even yelp. Crashes sucked.

The suit was doing its best to force the prompt recovery of the Commander, but was hard pressed with no energy to work with, until the protector bots injected the suit with nanites. The suit itself was still in fine condition, its user being the one who had been wrecked by the belief backlash, but the repair nanites did carry with them a small 'jump start' charge, so to speak. Working with the limited energy, the suit restarted essential systems and started speeding up the Commander's recovery.

He would be up, pissed, and in a grade-A combat condition in less than 7 minutes. Barring his actual 'death,' the Commander would remain on-site until he could continue.

Kirae was getting annoyed. she wanted a answer from him and she was going to get one
"why wont you answer me?" she cryed out
"i want a answer or ill teleport you into a volcano!" Kirae said as one of her wings moved slightly, it was now touching him

((Uh... Sov? Target Lad got off two powerful attacks before he went down to the poison; are you even going to acknowledge those? His entire schtick is that he's a pretenaturally accurate shot with the bow- limited (~1 second-ish) precognition lets him aim at where his target will be, not where they are. Well, that and the electrical manipulation, but whatever ))

Target Lad was a t-shirted blur by the time he reached the section that Pestilence had last been seen (radio contact with the security team was handy- apparently, none of the villains had bothered to disable the security cameras). The little archer banked sharply, veering around a corner.

Spotting the hazmat-suited figure of the chemical wielder at the end of a long hallway (along with Kirae... Bugger... not her again...), Target Lad pushed even harder, accelerating as his fists began to glow blue, electricity crawling around them.

In the space of a heartbeat, he had become a blue-white streak, a thunderstrike of lightning aimed squarely at the small of Pestilence' back.

((Huh...I thought the plants had smacked him before he got those off. Oh well, guess not. ))

The protector bots carrying Cynic didn't seem to like this proposition at all, one of them coming about face and blasting a paralyzer bolt at Kirae, hoping to reduce her body to an unresponsive meatbag for the next few hours.

Whether this worked or not of course remained to be seen, but if the machine succeeded, it and its cousin wouldn't waste any more time stuffing Cynic into that closet and out of the way.

At the same time, however, came a yell from down the corridor, though Julia's impacting volley of plasma blasts somewhat distorted the tone, "Hey, you! Yeah, you, with the aluminum foil! I said I'd pay extra for no killing, and...!"

Oh snap...

((Kirae teleported the grenade and the gas all at once))
Kirae was shocked by the robot
"........STOP!!.... AHHH!!!" Kirae cryed, her body was convulsing, she didnt notice Target Lad or anyone else, all she could do was just stare as tears flowed down her face from the shocks

((So you're saying you TPFoed a cloud of noxious fumes. That'd be fine in and of itself, but teleporting enemies only lets you bring them closer...))

The grenade materalised right on top of her.

Abram rounded the corner and smiled as the grenade burst to reveal an imp on a blood thirsty rampage. It jumped into Kirae's face, clawing at her. Excecpt this imp wasn't made of fire but of pure psionic energy, though physical wounds would not be inflicted, crippling emotional blows would be delivered.

((Praetorian Abram is basically the same as regular Abram minus he's Fire/Psy with Psy Imps and not Fire/Kin))

The other two imps simply laughed behind Abram's coat while clinging on to his pants. They we're cruel ceatures, they would wait until Abram gave the signal to begin attacking everything in sight.

A wave of psionic energy filled the hallway. It didn't have a target, but Abram did. He intended to keep realeasing psionic energy every three to ten seconds, in other words, just as fast as he could.

Abram reached into one of his pockets. He pulled his hand out with something thick and black. He threw it at . A mixture of ash and cinders flew straight for Kirae's head. He laughed.

And then the imps screached and two more waves of psiconic energy rocked the room.

that was the last straw
Kirae grabbed the imp, a menacing smile apeared on her face, and with one hand wrapped around the imps neck she squesed and heard a snap, she then turned to abram
she was still grinning, it seemed liked the poisen was messing with her mind, she drew her swords and charged at abram in a blind rage

Posted

The imp's neck didn't snap. It has no physical body to be injured. It's physical properties were simple, they were solid when they came into contact with living things. They had nothing inside them, attempting to push though this "skin" so to speak, would result in direct contact with the energies contained beneth.

Kirae's hands began to burn.

As she charged at Abram with her katanas in a blind rage the two imps jumped directly into the blades. They we're impaled but sent a constant psionic current down the blades and directly into Kirae.

Another wave of psionic energy shot off from Abram in all directions. This time there were noticable dents in the walls. He stopped his cycle of sending psionic shockwaves off in every directions in favor of playing with Kirae more.

As soon as she got with in touching range, he would probe her mind for all the wrong reasons. To find out how to best inflict pain upon her.

Posted

Kirae didnt even notice the burnning or anything, her body was being destroyed and she didnt even realise it, her mind was a blank slate, she just kept swinging her blades at abram, when this was over if she wasnt dead she would be in unspeakable pain

Posted

((No specific strikes?))

Seeing this "berserker state of mind," Abram knew what had to be done. He side stepped and grabbed her injured wing while the three imps were busy mentally inflicting pain in every part of her body.

He gripped a little harder and began to drain some of her psyche. Depending on how long he was allowed to stay on her would determine just how tired she would be and just how much more powerful he would be.

Just for good measure, he was readying another mixture of thick, choking soot to throw into her face.

Posted

((her wing isnt injured anymore))
feeling something grip her wing she snapped out of her "berserker state"
as she felt a pull and a tighter grip on her wing she let out a gasp and hit the floor
"n...not you again!" she said looking up at abram, her body was limp again, she then felt her hands burning and let out a cry

((Wait... Sov... what ruleset are we playing by? Most threads that I've participated in on this forum haven't adhered too strictly to in-game mechanics; so if we're not sticking exactly to Co* mechanics, then Kirae is a 'true' teleporter (send things away as well as bringing them closer), and she can teleport gases elsewhere if she wants. And if we're sticking exactly to gameplay mechanics, then how are your plants absorbing damage for you?

I apologize if it wasn't clear before, but Target Lad fired off one attack the instant he was in the portal room, pretty much simultaneous with teleporting in, and had time to get off a second before the plant-alanche got him. He's a blaster; attack speed is how he survives. And how is a vine going to stop a Talsorian Arrow (those green energy-blade-things the Vanguard use), anyways? As to the gas, at the moment Target Lad's moving exceedingly quickly, and has been maintaining a bubble of 'clean air' within his charged armour, same as he was before. It doesn't last too terribly long a time (it's only a few cubic meters of air), but it's enough to keep him going for a little while.))

((no.
also Kirae is a teleporter but that grenade wasnt the same grenade she teleported, it was a imp))

((Actually. I haven't told you yet, but it was the grenade. I have a trick up my sleeve that I think Sovs AND Ace know what it is.))

Seeing their target on the ground, the three imps jumped on top of her, physically injuring her as well as mentally.

And then came the mind probe. Abram placed two of his hands on the back of Kirae's head and began his probe. Excecpt it wasn't really an infomation probe, more of a ripping-your-mind-appart probe.

Julia stopped her rain of plasma long enough to grab her head with a piercing pain, the psychic shockwave that had just resonated throughout the surrounding room affecting her with full force due to her lack of psychic defense. She then crashed to the ground, shoulder first, which, considering she couldn't concentrate on maintaining her aerial balance, just makes sense.

She gritted her teeth, shutting her eyes tightly as the migraine continued to pain her.

The protector bot's crimson lenses regarded Kirae almost quizzically as she first seemed to succumb to the paralyzer, but then spontaneously jumped up and ran off again. Had the machine possessed anything resembling emotions, it might've been quite frustrated as the winged woman shrugged off bolt after bolt, completely ignoring the mechanoid's assault.

As he reappeared, chances were Abram had gotten a good look of the black-garbed figure down the corridor (actually, chances were practically zero that he hadn't, considering the direct line of sight between the two), and if he knew as much as his counterpart, it wasn't far-fetched that he'd recognize the silhouette-like intruder. After all, just about anyone who hung about deeply in Portal Corp. on a regular basis would've caught the rumors spread by the resident scientists.

They spoke of a man who wasn't a man, a phantom of shadow that was at times here, at times there, but generally just not present - especially whenever one of them followed the mysterious figure around a corner.

They'd given many a name to the aberration, including of course the Phantom, the Shadow of Science, and Doctor Poof, but had generally agreed upon just referring to the guy as 'the Doc'.

And unlike the machine, the Doc was practically fuming!

Seriously, what in blue blazes was going on here?! Not only did he know those tin cans he'd brought along could flatten humans for several hours with their paralyzers, but some nut job had recalled the chemical mercenary's grenade, resulting in a cloud of freakin' blood toxin that nobody even seemed to be noticing!

The Doc himself was far enough down the hall to be unbothered, but the ignoramus attacking that wing-gal just stood right there and laughed in a fog whose specialty it was to pick apart red blood cells! Hell, it caused injury to humans upon contact with soft tissue, like eyes - not to mention the stuff tended to laugh at military-grade gas masks and just pass right on through!

But that wasn't even the half of it! The Doc nearly couldn't believe his eyes as he saw Abram's other antics, the guy and his imps releasing psychic shockwaves all over the place while at the same time somehow attaining downright miraculous reflexes that allowed him to somehow avoid not one, but two speeding swords without so much as a scratch - let alone the fire from the robotic henchmen that Kirae had drawn his way.

Geez, what in cripes am I dealing with here? The powerhouse of the month finalists?

Hell, he didn't even want to know how the archer zipping at Pestilence over there got through all that toxic gunk and rapid-fire psi garbage. He just hoped it was some kind of major armor and not the guy's powers. Otherwise, the kid would've been near-invincible!

Indeed, had the Doc known of Cynic's quickening recovery, he would've been even more furious. True, metahumans certainly differed from the norm, and usually none of them stayed down for the full ten hours, but even tanker-types were generally out of comission for at least three. Since when had the robots' paralyzers become somehow wimpified?!

Well, at least plasgirl up there seemed to be having problems with it all, making her an easy target for some battle drones. Her blasts hadn't been able to pierce the Doc's shield alone, but considering the uncanny frequency with which heroes popped up today, he wasn't entirely confident she'd be the only one attacking him for long.

Hopefully, there wouldn't be another incredible miracle, and the mechanoids would actually succeed in paralyzing someone for once. All this ignoring of their attacks was really getting old.

Oddly enough, the Doc seemed to have a rather scattered mind - no longer needing to worry about his own defense, he took off down the corridor again...

The Doc was LUCKY. Most metahumans could recover from crashes similar to Cynic's in UNDER a minute through simple resting, certain specialized healing techniques, meditation, lots of crap really. Heck, most metahumans these days could shrug off attacks that would leave normal humans in a coma. Where the Doc's paralyzers might very well have been fab against a human, Cynic was a human wearing military grade armor that monitored and controlled his bio-works, had special training to boot, and had a weapon that was more effective the more belief in it he had. Certainly, it should have been SURPRISING it should take Cynic 7 minutes to recover at all, especially after having his suit's workings rebooted by the protector bots. The only reason he wasn't kaput dead from the gas cloud was because of the very kind Protector bots who had seen fit to drag him out of range before the [censored] had hit the fan.

The Doc was lucky that at the very least, 1 of the dozens of super-powered individuals in the building could actually go down. Seeing as he was at least as invincible as everyone of them anyway, why was he worried, furious, or angry at all?

Cynic, not being able to twitch at the moment anyway BECAUSE of the paralyzers, *a crash alone wouldn't have completely immobilized him* had no choice but to be dragged to the closet.

Kirae began to glow, her healing power was taking effect, she then teleported away to out side the building
she appeared out side the front doors
"i escapted........" she said, she then feel over

Kirae didn't go anywhere. She reappeared exactly where she had been before.

"Going somewhere?" Abram smiled.
