Just came by to say--love your preliminary sketches.
I agree, and I think you can still make those toons more faithful to your sketches now...
Cool idea for a thread. I don't really have any before drawings, sadly. I do have more superhero designs rattling around my head than is healthy.
Ooh fun subject!
I have a LOT of characters that I've put into COH just to see them move. 
((I think that's partially why I dislike the idea of a cel-shaded game, because this one is rendered so well.))
Characters:
Aern Kshau, aka Shard
He wound up as a Spines scrapper, but gah I hate spines. He only has arm spikes (which are shown beautifully as 'spiked wrap' gloves) and that's supposed to be ALL he uses. Basically, I should remake him as some other kind of scrapper, though ... feh, none of the others has animations I want.
Raanatani of the 12
She's a tiger. She's a woman. She's a tiger woman.
One of my actual superhero characters (from ... probably Champions I think. She was actually from a dream which I then converted her and other characters into pen and paper characters). Ellie l'Outlet
Ele/ele blaster. Hopelessly stuck at level 20.
A joke character that actually a friend in high school made for me, part of a group which I've slowly started making with alt accounts... Jett Sam
Grav troller.
My matrix type character, Charybdis
Who's gotten a little facelift with the more recent stuff in the costume generator,
Charybdis new
And I've done some mods to the pictures,
Charybdis as she appears outside the Matrix
My old old old Star Wars fic character Karen Kenobi
Who actually turned out pretty darn good considering. I used her for a contest in here, making her Jedi outfit.
Then of course, there's Me as Retail Retali8r
And as the villain version, Retali8ed Retailer.

Okay, so I was sifting through my Photobucket accts looking for a screenie for a costume option in Beta for CoV. (Anyone remember that shoulder option of fur that covered the whole top torso and shoulders? Thats what I was looking for - visit Jay's Costume Request thread for further on this)

Anyways, I came across drawings I had made when I first heard about CoH. (Anyone remember the OLD ORANGE & BLACK forums, and the powers and how you could select them, before they changed it all?) So, while I imagined what I wanted to see for my Heroes, I sat down and drew them.
I was wondering, anyone else do this, and does anyone else have pictures of what you dreamt of, and what your Hero ultimately ended up looking like?
