It's pretty good, if your using photoshop for coloring you can lower the opacity of a brush and have a glowing effect, usually works best on a layer above the lines though...

You have to remember your single light source and keep it consistent. If the light is from the left, the shadows fall on the right, and all highlights are on the severe left. It gets tricky when you use multiple light sources, then sometimes the shadows form in the center of the object...

You are right though....sort of late but i could have centered the pic a bit better, I may go back and recenter after I figure out how to do the glowing eyes.
