Ok what you do is go to the select menu. Choose by color and then pick the color you want to select. Then go back to the select menu and hit invert. Then just hit delete on your keyboard and viola!

I used to do this all the time in photoshop but not being able to afford my own copy right now, I'm using gimp and can't find how to get this effect.
anyways... here's what I want to do...
you select a particular color... then reverse the selection so everything EXCEPT that color is selected. Then you can hit the "delete" key and everything is gone except for your color.
any way to do that in gimp?
