The Merry Prankster is running something on
Justice that ALL PvPers should take a look at. Extremely
organized and very fun, definitely recommended for all PvP and
PvErs alike!

Hello everyone, The Merry Prankster here. Well I find myself in
the Rikti Monkey Fight Club. Home of Proprietor Joe Young, a
kitchen full of ticked off Rikti Monkeys and Justice Servers
Saturday Night Fights!

Just what the heck is Saturday Night Fights
you might ask? Well let's ask the current host of SNF, none
other than Justice Radio's DJ Free-Radical.

So Free-Radical, please tell our
readers a little bit about yourself and Justice
Radio?

Justice Radio is an online radio station by
gamers for gamers with interactive DJs to make your online gaming
experience more enjoyable. I was a longtime listener before I was
a DJ on JR.

So how and when did this all
start?

Saturday Night Fights was started by DJ
Needlez almost 2 years ago and was geared towards "Taking back
the Arena and PvP zones!" Basically just to get listeners and
players into then mostly unused zones to have fun beating each
other up and trash talking without any feelings getting hurt. SNF
with DJ Needlez is what got me started in PvP.

What do I have to do to participate?
Is this open to every one?

Just come on down and check it out. Yes
*grins* it's open to everyone.

Okay, then what can I expect as a
first time player? Do you need to be an 'experienced'
PvPer to have fun?

No experience necessary, everyone starts out a
novice and even experienced PvPers need to work the bugs out of
new toons. And you can expect to be warmly welcomed by the SNF
community and helped out in joining in on the events.

What would you say to someone who
hasn't done much PvP and might be a little leery about
joining in?

I say come and watch some fights and meet the
players, I am sure after checking it out you are gonna want to
have a go at someone.

What is your most memorable fight or
moment from SNF?

There are so many for different ones for
different reasons; it depends on what toon I am playing and who I
am fighting. But one of my favorites was in Bloody Bay. I was
fighting on the heroes side and we had fought the villains into
their base and kept them holed up for about 20 minutes or so all
the while taunting the hell out of them. Just then tons of
villains came pouring out at us! (They had called for
reinforcements) I was on my blaster 'Eagle Sonic' and dropped 4
of them before they all turned on me and took me down

Wow, that sure sounds like fun! Thank
you DJ Free-Radical. Well let's see what some of the SNF
regulars have to say about their experiences.

I'm here with Just
Joan
, SNFs newly appointed information officer and Mr.
and Mrs. Fuego, long time friends and supporters of Justice Radio
and Saturday Night Fights..

So how long have you all been fighting
in SNF?

JJ: Just about 2 years
now.

Fuego: Oh, I've been
involved as a participant in SNF pretty much from the beginning
if I remember correctly, however I did miss the first month or so
due to DJ Needlez holding it on the Test server.

Mrs. F: As far as time spent
involved with SNF, I believe off and on over a year now.

(Saturday Night Fights continued next page.)

(Saturday Night Fights continued)

Well, sounds like you all have been at this a
while. How would you rate your experiences at SNF to other PvP
experiences you've had?

JJ: SNF rates exceptionally
high when compared to fighting in PvP zones. The players are
super friendly and there is very little if any whining.

Fuego: I enjoy SNF as pretty
much the ONLY PvP that I participate in. I don't much enjoy
PvP because so far none of my toons actually fit in a world of
full time PvPers. I also enjoy the structure of the event as more
teams Vs teams or one on ones in a more structured environment
whereas in most PvP zones its pretty chaotic.

Mrs. F: I had played some PvP
on the Liberty sever right after Issue 4 was released. People
were just starting so there wasn't nearly as many PvPers as there
are now. So as you can read… LOL it wasn't very
active and was very boring. But with SNF, the involvement of the
DJs and other players, PvP became quite a bit more enjoyable. And
the excitement of the other players only made me want to play PvP
more, to the point that I have done a lot of reading of PvP
data.

What is your most memorable fight or
moment from SNF?

JJ: My most memorable fight
would have to be my first one. Everyone made brand new toons and
we fought at level 2.

Fuego: Ok, this is probably a
horrible thing to have as a most memorable moment but as I said
I'm not all that into PvP so its the sheer idiocy of the
situation that humors me: We were doing one on ones in the arena
and somehow I wound up as N Fuego vs. Enigmas brute (sorry
can't remember his name), but anyway I wasn't
interested and my at the time 5 year old was in a phase where she
wanted to sit on my lap and "help" so I wound up pretty much
letting her fight him while I just kinda sat there and steered
letting her activate powers. In TS he was all excited and happy
and taunting me about how easily he handled me. Felling the need
to be honest I replied ‘YAY you beat up a 4 year old nice
job'! The disappointment in his voice and subsequent tells
to the Mrs. about who was actually playing my toon amused me to
no end.

Mrs. F: My most memorable
moment in PvP has to be what happen in the most recent matches. I
was in a duel with DJ Free-Radical.. I had just pwnd him and had
no health left on my toon XSisting. So I ran to regain my health.
His re-spawn was fast and near me! LOL. He attacked me even
though I had no health, so brutal! With no health I was able to
take him out again. This surprised me to point of hysteria
because I'm not a leet PvP player. WOW, I took him out that
night not once but five times! But he still won by one kill...
What an awesome night!

So what is that that drew you to
SNF?

JJ: Having a scheduled time
to PvP with my friends.

Fuego: What drew me to SNF?
The DJs of course. If SNF was any other PvP event I would NOT be
involved at any level. Pinz started it as way to "Take back the
arenas" right after the PvP zones opened. And he being not only a
DJ or a fellow Fool but a friend as well, I found myself only to
happy to offer what support I could. Now that DJ Free-Radical
runs the event I feel no less strongly about wanting to support
my friends.

Mrs. F: To tell you the
truth... LOL. Okay, no really DJ Needlez and Fuego. They are both
awesome people and have incredible skills.

What advice would you give to a new
SNF participant?

JJ: Just don't get
discouraged if you die alot at first.... keep at it you will only
get better.

Fuego: Get a toon with a dark
secondary. The slows and debuffs are a pain. Other than that,
just enjoy it and take nothing personally its all in good
fun!

Mrs. F: Advice!!! LOL Run
away from The Merry Prankster and Just Joan!!!

And read information on toon building and strategies. Watch other
PvPers play and don't get upset if you lose. Remember, if you can
take 'em down once you can take 'em down again! And lastly, if
the match allows for it USE those inspirations! That's what they
are there for!

Well there you have it folks! First off, I
want to give a big thanks to DJ Free-Radical, Just Joan, Fuego
and Mrs. Fuego, who were all gracious enough to take the time to
share their experiences with us.

And remember, if you're ever on Justice
server and feel like punching someone in the face in a fun and
friendly PvP environment that caters to all character and skill
levels, then come on down to the Rikti Monkey Fight Club and get
your fight on!

The
2007 Halloween Costume!

The deadline for the "/showflat.php?Number=9424637" class="Plain">
2007 Halloween Costume Contest is fast approaching. It's one
of my favorite things to see every year. The brave souls who take
the time to make up a version of their ingame costume, and wear
it for all to see. This is a final reminder that you have until
November 6th, 2007 to submit your photos. Just remember to read
the rules closely. I've seen in the past years several posts from
folks who messed up on one detail or another.

One advantage to waiting to the last minute like
this, you slackers can take advantage of the after Halloween
bargains on costume supplies to make your hero outfit. Of course,
that is kind of balanced out by the fact that people may think
you're a bit confused dressing up several days after Halloween,
but who cares! There are prizes at stake here.

Best of luck to everyone who enters. You'll
never see me dressed up in a Lemur Lad costume, so everyone can
rest easy. I'm about 3 feet too tall for that. I suppose though
if I ever get intoxicated enough to shave my head, I could dress
up as my villain alter ego Creeping Crowley. Regardless, I will
really enjoy seeing all the folks that enter, you're braver souls
than I.

Another delectable offering from

Pumpkin Roll

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 2/3 cup pumpkin puree

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    [/list]

    DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour
jelly roll pan. I use a 15x18 inch pan lined with waxed paper and
    then greased and floured.

Beat eggs with electric mixer for 2 1/2
minutes. Add sugar slowly while still beating. Beat for 3 1/2
minutes more. Fold in pumpkin and lemon juice.

Mix together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg,
ginger, salt and baking powder. Fold into batter. Spread batter
onto prepared pan. Bake for 15-18 minutes. Remove from oven and
allow to cool enough to handle.

Remove cake from pan and place on tea towel
(cotton, not terry cloth). Roll up the cake by rolling towel
inside cake and place seam side down to cool.

Prepare the frosting by blending together the
sugar, cream cheese, butter and vanilla.

When completely cooled, unroll cake and spread
with cream cheese filling and roll up again without towel. Wrap
with plastic wrap. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Sprinkle
with confectioner's sugar and slice into 12-15 servings.

Jason the X

Pinnacle Server

Welcome Jason and thanks for doing this. Let's start with the basics shall we? If you would, where do you live, how old are you and your gender?

I recently moved to Dallas, TX. I'm 29 and hang on.........yep, male.

So are you an only child or did your parents get busy?

I'm the oldest of 2 children, I have a younger sister who I torture for a hobby.

Well are you married or seeing someone special?

I'm married to a great woman who got me into MMOs. We've been married for 3 years and together for 6.

Good to hear! Do you two have any children as of yet?

We just welcomed a new addition into our family as of the 14 of October. His name is Edward and we are very happy to have him.

That is great news man! So you mentioned that your wife was the one who got you into MMOs. Which one did you two first start playing together?

Well she was a beta tester for COH and I reluctantly tried it for a bit, next thing I know it was 8 hours later

So what drew you in fully during that time?

I always had a thought for a character since I was a child. After seeing energy melee and invulnerability together I was like, wow, this is my character.

Can you remember your biggest n00b moment?

When I first started I thought the ten squares in your level indicator were your actual level. So when I told my wife I was 60 I was informed that I was only 6. Also, I used to spell out full names when responding to tells before I knew you could just hit backspace.

Well let's take the focus off the game for a bit. What do you like to do for fun when you are not playing the game?

I'm big on physical training from my years in the military, so I'm at the gym a lot. I also obsessed about Transformers. Some say it's unhealthy but I disagree.

<cough>Going to look for The Transformers game a week before it launched because a friend told you it was out and threatening the clerks
was healthy?<cough>

Yeah, I fell for that one hook line and sinker. I think an obsessed Transformers fan searching store after store looking for something that a good friend told him was definitely out there.

How long were you in the military and which branch?

I was in the U.S. Navy for 10 years I started out as a gunners mate and switched to master at arms after 4 years.

what does that mean exactly for those of us not up to date on the military?

I worked with ammo and explosives my first 4 years. A Master at Arms basically deals in military law enforcement.

Thank you, I did not know that. What television shows and movies do you like to watch the most?

I love the programing on Adult Swim, The Boondocks, The Venture Bros., Robot Chicken, I love em all. As far as movies I like action and comedy. Transformers was the best movie I've seen this summer. Spiderman 3 was the worst you know I'd give them a mulligan if they wanna redo that one.

What type of music do you like to listen to?

Hard rock, Static-X, Metallica, lots of what my coworkers in the Navy called music to hurt people by.

So what is your favorite quote from anything out there?

Hmmm better stay away from things R rated. My granddaddy used to say "It's amazing what one can do when one's butt is on the line."

Any particular place you like to go for fun or relaxation?

Mostly the gym and my back porch. Nothing like a good cigar and a glass of whiskey on the rocks to relax ya.

Any particular authors and books you could not live with out?

A lot of people don't consider comic books a proper media but I'm not one of them. I buy weekly and read lot of titles from X-Men to Justice League. The team books really appeal to me more than anything. Though some of my favorite authors are Henry Rollins, Stephen King and Robert Ludlum

Ok getting back to the game, how did you end up on your home server?

Random pick at day one.

So what activities do you enjoy the most in game?

Well anytime you got a good group of people to play with almost anything is fun. I'm a big fan of the open zones for PvP. Kinda reminds me of a bar brawl. Not that I've EVER done that......

What do you enjoy most about the PvP system?

The rep system is a good way to show you how good you really are.

Any particular zone in the game your favorite to hang out in and why?

If I could buy an apartment in Founders Fall I would. I love the look of that zone.

How bad is your badge lust in the game?

I try to keep my badge lust to just 2 heroes and 1 villain.

any ones your favorite to get?

Well due to my rank in the Navy, I was very pleased when they made a badge called Chief. I think I woke my wife up to tell her.

What would be your proudest moment in the game be?

There have been several. Being a part of Jagged Legion I have had the honor of sharing a few proud moments. First to finish new TF's or get some new item in the game such as the Fusion Generator or if any of you remember it the Cathedral of Pain. It may sound like ego but I like being the best at as much as I can if I can share it with my friends it's even better.

Well now I would like to go ahead and get your opinion of the game now that i9 and i10 have been here for a few months and do you think i11 is gonna add more to the game?

Well I'm a big fan of the IO's, they bring more choices for us for our characters and make up for things we could be lacking. I think that we as players are going to see things that we have wanted for awhile coming with this issue. Like everyone else, I've wanted new power sets and I plan on rolling up a dual blades when they go live. I certainly hope that this year is the year for the players.

What would you say is your playstyle in the game?

Very, very aggressive. I'm pretty much my teams bruiser

What advice would you give to someone who is completely new to the game?

I find that a lot of people lose their manners when in the game. Heck, I've been guilty of it sometimes in game and in life but I think that you should remain polite and courteous to whoever you meet. You may need them one day and it's good to be careful with your words, you never know when you may have to eat them.

Well with that do you have any closing comments to give the community?

Stay with us everyone I think the best is yet to come.

align="absmiddle"> Go. Hunt. Get Badge. "http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/adsogw/CityScoop/Coin.png"
align="absmiddle">

This week's badge is Gravedigger, something
appropriate to set as your title this time of year. Getting it
has nothing to do with the Halloween Events, and it's just as
easy or hard any other time of the year, but still it's
thematically appropriate. Gravedigger
is for taking out 100 of the Vahzilok Embalmed Cadavers, the
zombies with backpacks full of explosive chemicals that run up to
you and explode.

Heroes

I rate this a 1 out of 5 on the difficulty
scale. There are Vahzilok in most of the low level zones, and
there are more than enough missions that you can often get this
during normal gameplay. The most difficult aspect is the toxic
damage done by the Cadavers. If you are a low level character
fighting Vahz close to your level, you often don't have the
protections against this yet, and they can prove quite lethal if
you're not careful. Apart from the story arcs below, there are
large numbers of Vahz in the Positron
Task Force
.

Notable Story Arcs (Contacts listed in
link):

The
Vahzilok Pollutant Plot
(10-15)

The
Vahzilok Plague
(15-20) This is the one where you get
to fight Dr Vahz himself.

If you decide to hunt the badge outside of
missions, I recommend Perez Park. Inside the northern wall of the
park there are numerous locations for Vahz to appear. Perez Park
is an excellent zone for badge hunting, by the way. I'll more
than likely discuss that in a future installment. Faultline used
to be an excellent zone for getting this badge quickly. However
since the revamp, the vahz only appear in limited numbers and
only during ingame night. As I learned painfully last week, the
zone is not under the Halloween event permanent night, either
(curse you, Numina Task Force- you win, this time).

Villains

This badge becomes a 3.5 out of 5 on the difficulty scale for
villains. Normally it's much harder to get for villains There are
only limited places to see Embalmed in the open, and only a
couple of missions where you fight the Vahz.

Notable Mission:

Steal
Facemaker's reanimation chemicals

This mission is also the mission that grants the Mask Maker
badge. I recommend the two birds with one stone approach. Farm
the mission a couple of times to get Gravedigger, and then
complete it to earn the mission badge.

Hunting this badge is tricky, but not
impossible. There are two spots in Cap au Diable where Embalmed
Cadavers spawn. However unlike on the hero side, you have to have
quick reflexes, even if you are a very high level character and
the foes will not aggro on you. The issue here is that quite
often, most of the spawns are scripted, by which I mean they are
a face off between the Vahz and Arachnos, or Luddites. That means
the Embalmed will spawn, lock on the foe NPC, and explode. You
need to be quick to get a hit in before that happens. If not,
you're greeted with a series of explosions as your prey blows
itself up before you can get credit. There are some spawns that
are not in combat though, so from time to time you will be able
to get free shots. Additionally, I recommend avoiding Area effect
attacks. If you are careful, then you can kill an Embalmed
yourself, and a Mortificator will run over and reanimate it,
allowing you to kill it again, for double credit. That's really
difficult to manage though, I think I've only gotten that to
happen twice, so don't count on it.

The warehouses near the Facemaker's lair in
Cap au Diable have a few spawns that can contain Embalmed in
them. The other area is to the southeast of Aeon City. The
alleyways of the buildings nearest the water.

Final Note: Once Issue 11 hits, life becomes
simpler. Anyone level 25 and up will be able to use the Ouroboros
system to get missions. If I had thought of that before I wrote
the article, I wouldn't have gone into such mind numbing detail
on how a villain can hunt it in the open, but then again, if you
want the badge early for some reason, or just don't like farming
missions, that is always an option.

The City Traveler

Hi everyone, it's me, Belle! I hope everyone had a happy Halloween and didn't get too spooked by the strange events going on in the city! Now that the Halloween season is almost over, I'm kind of sad, but I won't be for long. It's time to look forward to Thanksgiving, yay!

Some of you might remember me asking you last week to try to find out the names of all four forts in the Rikti War Zone and to send me the answer. I've only gotten one response as of my deadline date, and it was sent by WageSlave94, who correctly identified Fort Baldy, Fort Bastogne, Fort Montgomery, and Fort Plum. He even sent me the dedication on each plaque in addition to the name. I'll leave you all to find that for yourselves, because I don't want to give away all of the fun!

Hooray, I now bestow the title of honorary Taxibot on WageSlave94 for his diligent pursuit of geographical knowledge! I wish I had a medal or something, but at least you get free coffee at the Drenched Donuts in Overbrook now. If anyone wants to have the title in more than an honorary capacity, be sure to drop me a message, and we'll talk about getting you set up.

Since WageSlave94 was right on top of my question, I took the opportunity to ask him what his favorite place in Paragon City is. His answer was kind of funny, he said that it wasn't in Paragon City at all. He said that it is Pocket D, where in his words, "For just a little while the ability to get away and relax without having to worry about the crushing fate of the world (or the next rent check) is enough of a relief to let you get back into the swing of things." Wow, the fate of the world is crushing? Still, I like Pocket D also, so I've decided to make the rest of this column about WageSlave94's favorite place.

The proprietor of Pocket D is a mutant named DJ Zero. Before opening Pocket D, he had an underground hero rave club called the Paragon Dance Party. At first, only a few people knew about it, and its existence was a closely guarded secret.

Before too long, though, it became really popular and well-known, and DJ Zero decided to move his establishment out to the Shadow Shard. The higher-ups at Portal Corporation weren't very pleased with the idea, but with Zero's hero connections and his tireless determination, he made it happen.

Pocket D always has a lot going on inside. It's one of few places where heroes and villains can talk to each other without fear of being attacked. You might even see more traditional villains in there, such as members of the Carnival of Shadows, Hellions, the Freakshow, and so on, all partying to Zero's beat.

For entertainment, DJ Zero has opened up a branch of the Monkey Fight Club inside Pocket D, located in the "blue" wing of the club. (Notice the lighting on the walls!) I don't really like it, but you can watch Rikti monkeys fight, and some people even bet on the outcomes.

The cage is three stories high, which means spectators can watch matches from the floor level, from the casino level, or from the restaurant level upstairs. You can usually find Joe Young and Cornelius chattering about the MFC just outside the cage. Just remember, never bet against the Banana-nator!

On the upper level of the Monkey Fight Club, there are battle terminals for the arena. I'm not a fighter, so I don't go inside the arena to do battle. However, all bar patrons are welcome to watch public matches in progress, and if you do want to participate, talk to the restaurant bartender if you need short-term abilities that can only be used in the arena. Even if you don't like testing your abilities against other heroes, you might be interested in the exploration marker that's inside the monkey cage, an arena that is available for some duel matches. You might have to start several matches before running across it, so if you're looking for it, be patient and keep trying until you find it.

For just relaxing, you can hang out in the Tiki Room, a VIP lounge for heroes with a Pocket D VIP Gold Club membership. If you need a membership to the lounge, they are still available. (Even if you already otherwise have full access to all other places!) In fact, if you have a VIP membership, you can teleport to the lounge from anywhere within Paragon City or the Rogue Isles!

Pocket D also has a couple of branches of Vault Reserve, Inc., where you can access salvage that you have saved at any of its other locations. There is one each on the downstairs level of the blue wing and the red wing, but both are accessible by either side. Also, be sure to talk for some of the bartenders if you need inspirations.

Lots of events happen in Pocket D. This past weekend, I went to a Halloween party hosted by the Angry Angels, and it sure was a lot of fun! I also remember lots of other events such as the Cuppathon on September 1 of last year, when CuppaJo resigned from active hero duty. Among the "guests" of honor were Lord Recluse and Hamidon, and I even got Manticore's autograph! Last year, Cricket helped to host a Halloween party there with lots of famous heroes (and yes, villains too), and it was a blast. In short, any time you need a good place to host a party large or small, you should definitely keep the D in mind.

Let's see, what else? Oh, I almost forgot! Pocket D has two really popular events that I hope will continue in some way. One happened last winter holiday season, when DJ Zero got a team of ice controllers to cover an island outside with snow for some fun on ice. He hasn't made any promises yet for this season, but with the success of last year's celebration, I suspect that he will do it again this year. There was even a special exploration marker outside that you could only get during the event!

The other happens at Valentine's Day, when heroes and villains work together towards a common goal. Some say their cooperation towards a mutual goal during this event was the inspiration for Vanguard's trust in some of Lord Recluse's so-called Destined Ones to help fight the Rikti threat.

I guess that's about it for this week's column, I hope you'll drop by and see the club soon, especially if you haven't been there in a while. Oh, and thanks, Shadowtech, for the neat picture of the old Paragon Dance Party Club!

Since last week's question was a lot of fun, let's try another one. Just like Pocket D, heroes sometimes used the old Paragon Dance Party club for easy transportation between the zones it connected. Maybe some of you long-time heroes out there will remember the answer to this: Which three Paragon City zones were connected by the old Paragon Dance Party club? Send me your answer if you know, and until next time, byeee!
