"That works," Toy said with a nod toward Cortianna as he stepped out behind Baalial.

Raising one arm toward the turrets and seeming to sight down it, Toy grabbed the elbow with his other hand to hold himself steady and the fired. He fired off a crackling, twisting stream of lightning that beat against the first turret for several seconds before causing it to explode. He then shifted toward the second turret, killing it faster because of Cortianna's tactic, and the onto the third.

Just as the third turret exploded in a burst of flame and shrapnel, the stream of lightning winked off as though it never was and Toy collapsed to the ground, barely able to keep himself on one knee.

"I don't like doing that much," Toy said, static still garbling his voice. "But it does get the job done, doesn't it? Now get your man and get us the hell out of here, Stevie Boy."

Steve nodded and stepped over to Windsong. He held out a hand to remove her restrains, then stopped. "Uuuhhh..."

Arrow raised an eyebrow. "Don't tell me you don't know how to take these things off..."

"I... er-"

Sybil's voice all sounded in their minds at once. 'The energy cannot harm you as long as you remove the tendrils one at a time.'

Steve nodded and grabbed the first. He felt a twinge of sickness, but nothing he couldn't fight off. Unraveling the first on Windsong's arm was like untangling a piece of rope. It came away and hanged down limply.

Arrow watched, then moved to one of the civilians and began to do the same.

"What do I do now?" Psycho13 muttered as Mini Bot sped off with the beeping sphere.

There were sounds of battle all around him. He didn't feel like tearing into minions anymore, even though he could hear them scrabbling all around him. One shot him in the back, in the shoulder blade, but he just started walking it off.

Regeneration: so you don't have to give a damn.

He didn't know what he was looking for. Now that he had sated his bloodlust, he had to think about what had put him in such a rage.

"James..." he muttered, "It should be you who's here... Not me."

Closing his eyes, he listened to the sounds of battle. This way and that, he could hear Mayhem troopers falling. It seemed the Resistance fighters were more than prepared to take this place, even without Toy "Vendetta" Dispenser's help.

But something was happening... He could feel it. Something was wrong.

Taking a deep breath, he listened to the combat. Suddenly, he felt something twitch, like a buzzing in his brain. An instinct was telling him to go in a certain direction, and he started moving instantly.

Mini-Bot made it just outside the entrance before the small bomb exploded. It wasn't likely the brave robot survived. Either way, the door sure didn't, having caved in with the force of the blast.

--------------

Apex's face twisted with anger as his attempt was foiled. "You are all fools!" He spat on Combat Toy, hoping to anger the robot. From what intelligence had told the Masters, the robot preferred violence.

Soul Striker found him feeling a great sense of accomplishment as he saw Apex being restrained by the powerful robot.

However, his heart sank as he saw an explosion engulf another one. Despite that though, when he noticed the three prisoners, his original goal was brought back to mind. There she is! Hero time! Rushing over to the folks ensnared in the darkness, he pressed several buttons on his arm, this created an aura that gave him a fair protection from the energies, and he began to quickly remove the tendrils one by one unhindered. Piece of cake, and to think I was nervous about something like this...still, it's a bit TOO easy isn't it? Ehh, it's probably nothing. Soul Striker only continued to keep helping the prisoners, right then, it was the only task, and he could do it with ease.

Jake decided to help in the department of destroying turrets, his bots taking them down with relative ease when they concentrated their fire-power. Chuckling at Cortianna's handy-work, he temporarily put the 'possesssed' turrets as friendly, at least until they were the only ones left.

Steve freed Windsong as Arrow and Soul Striker nabbed the civilians. Once they were free, an alarm blared. "Shouldn't be a problem with no guards left," said Steve, carrying her over his shoulder.

Arrow nodded, putting the civilian he rescued in the same position. "Cover us, Toy?" he said, walking towards the exit.

They headed out and rejoined the group. "Alright, let's get out of here. Keep a tight grip on Apex," Steve ordered, marching towards the way out.

As they did, androids teleported inside. Before a warning could go out, one took deadly aim on Apex, firing a laser burst that split the Master's skull clean open. A cry of "Tec-!" was all he got out before falling limply in Combat Toy's arms.

"[censored]!" shouted Steve, not sure what to do with an unconcious person on his back, and four shiny, deadly androids blocking their escape.

The girl looked down at the small blade. "But you don't want to use it." This was a statement, not a fact. If Thule wasn't already on guard, he might notice that he really didn't even like using the blade. "But you didn't really answer my question. I'll be more specific. Why were you watching them?"

[/ QUOTE ]

"Why was I watching them? I wasn't. I teleported there and they happened to be there. I tried to escape the area but diving into the bushes, but they noticed me. Any more questions?"

"Escape? From what?" asked the girl, keeping both eyes locked on Thule's. He felt a small tingle in the back of his head as she increased the mental pressure on her 'lie detector.'

"Escaping from the Masters and their hunters. Elitist has turned on me. Sent all his hunters after me. I'm a wanted man, right now. I managed to escape by scrambling their trackers and sending them off in random directions. There has been twenty sent off, only one is part right."

Thule looked at the ground. He didn't like the binds on the chair. He was tempted to cut them and stand face to face with his 'captor'.

The girl looked at Thule, not sure what to say. If this was true... She looked up to the corner of the room, staring for a moment. The interrogator nodded, then looked back at Thule. "Hold still."

She placed both hands on his head, and a soft tingling sensation ran through his mind. This would be the ultimate test... There were a few moments of dead silence, then she let go.

"I'll... I'll have to check this with..." She shook her head. "I'm Pstorm." She undid Thule's restraints, then pointed him in the direction of the guards. "They'll lead you to Sybil. She'll want to talk to you personally..."

The soldiers led him out of the room, closing the door firmly behind them. "You did well, child," said Sybil as she stepped from the shadows.

"A traitor who survived? Is it possible?"

"Perhaps. I will question him myself to be sure. For now, you must rest."

Pstorm nodded, and began to head out of the room. She turned at the last moment and asked, "If he did turn, do you think he'll know anything about-"

"Now, now. All things in due time, child."

"Techno Tyrant, huh?" Baalia cracked his neck to the side, a bullet having lodged itself there earlier. The blazing aura of felfire about him seemed to do more than just protect, the demon's wounds closing again as the infernal flames burned about his form. Even his suit mended again, "This should be amusing....hm? Oh, fine."

Opening his briefcase, Baalial shook out a pile of bones and rotting flesh, complete with a festively colorful poncho, giant sombrero, and a jet-black guitar case. I didn't take two seconds for the pile to take form, an undead visage with slick sunglasses filling the space under the ridiculously giant hat. The half-rotten hands of a zombie held the guitar case in a more than overplayed fashion of machismo, the man who appeared as some manner of undead Mexican setting a hateful glare upon the androids.

"My name is Antonio Rodriguez Barrichoso Tamales." the zombie sneered at them with an obviously fake, yet flawless Spanish accent, "You killed my father. Prepare to die..."

"Well [censored] you too!" Combat Toy shouted angrily as he hurled Apex's lifeless body at one of the androids. The big bruiser followed immidiately after the corpse, both hands radiating a deadly red energy as he prepared to slam the android into the ground.

"Techno Tyrant means bad news!" Toy shouted to those heroes who wouldn't know who the Master was. "We've got maybe two minutes before more than just the rapid response force shows up!"

"I do not believe Techno Tyrant is acting according to his standard methods," Toy Bot said calmly as he jumped to one side and fired a burst of condensed radiation at one of the androids.

Small Toy faded from sight as Large Toy drifted back to inform Toy Dispenser of what had happened to Mini Bot.

"What do you want?"

The soldiers continued leading Thule through a series of tunnels until the surfaced in the back of what seemed to be a large warehouse. He soon found himself standing in front of a large, stone chair.

An old woman in black robes stepped from behind it, taking a seat. "You seem to be either very lucky, or very foolish," she stated.

Elitist watched as Apex's vitals took a sudden flatline. He sighed. The assassin was a useful asset. He paid no attention as the Master's image on the screen faded away, keeping his eyes on the keypad as he confirmed the base's destruction.

---------------

It would be obvious to Toy very quickly that Tyrant had recently improved his designs. The first shots fired on them pinged off harmlessly, and return fire followed soon after.

Their right arms each split open and folded back to reveal arm cannons. They raised to fire, shooting a bright, searing hot charge.

Their aim seemed more to capture however, shooting for less vital areas. But upon contact, one was likely to lost most of their skin on that area.

Just then the cavern shook. Steve cursed. "They're trying to blow the whole place!"

Arrow groaned. Partially because of the explosion, but also because the last four arrows he fired all snapped upon contact with the hard armor of the bots.

"We need to get out of here!" shouted Steve above the now increasing roar.

"They're trying to blow the whole place! We need to get out of here!"

Soul Striker began to feel panic rising in him, but a quick look to the unconscious civilians calmed his mind a bit. Scanning the room, he was unable to find an escape route. I could use my stealth suit, but that wouldn't be able to cover the civilian...Damn it, what do I do? Looking to Steve again he yelled, "Didn't you have an escape plan in case something like this happened!?" Rushing towards Jake he placed down the civilian down and said almost jokingly "Take care of the civy here for a bit kay?"

Turning back towards the androids he muttered to himself sarcastically, "Well, it's a good day to die, the weather's nice enough." Soul Striker assumed his fighting stance, all the whi;e dodging several blasts. However, one blast impacted on the center of his right shoulder piece leaving a small hole that left sparks flying.

Wh-what the hell!? No way could these blasts be that strong! After a second though, a thought came to Soul Striker's mind. Well, maybe this might work out... Soul Striker began to press several buttons on his arm again, diverting more power towards his right shoulder piece, causing vast amounts of electricity to pass through it. Seconds later he was trying to run towards the android closest to him, narrowly avoiding several more shots from it, all the while keeping his right shoulder in front of him, with electric energy now passing through several severed wires into the air, and occasionally onto his shoulders. Even as he ran, thoughts of dying passed through his mind. It's an android, so a concentrated shock should short circuit it...right?

Twilight was actually almost pleased by Apex's death. Far too often had that man killed off prospective...food for lack of a better word. He watched the one he had originally been following, Soul Striker, take a hit and charge headfirst into the androids.

"Now now, no need to go killing yourself while you're still needed hero." After that comment he stuck out both o his hands, intensly focusing on the center between the androids. A black void started to appear, pulling at the enemies as they stood, taking aim. When the eventually were moved into it they were not sent out of this existence; merely phased into another plane of existence (Black Hole). "We should hurry, they won't be able to touch us like that; though it is only temporary."

"Hurrrrrrrrrrrr-RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Psycho13 shot like a bullet into the center of the machines. He bounced off one, the momentum at least knocking it backwards. Mentally, he considered what had just happened to him...

Cracked ribs? Three.

Hairline fractures on arms and legs? Yep.

Really, REALLY bad headache? Oh, you better believe that's a paddlin'.

...

What?

He shook off the odd little quip from a favored animated series, and did that odd little "flex" that repaired all that damage he'd just accrued. The cracks in his bones knitted together again, but the headache was only alleviated at a minor level.

Damn.

That made Pscyho13 so angry.. Well, not as angry as before, but angry enough to stab his left blade into one robot's eye. The one he just caused to stumble would do...

The androids fired, and the undead man cackled sadistically as the guitar case snapped open with raucous clacks, hitting the ground like a ton of bricks.

A high-pitched whine filled the cavern as the multiple barrels of the vulcan cannon spun up to speed, then loosed a torrent of 20 mm shells with thunderous applause, saturating the air with lead. Muzzle flashes played brightly in the reflective sunglasses of the manically grinning zombie, the undead man stoically accepting the return fire without so much as a single flinch, even as the incendiaries burned into his rotting flesh.

Until Toy's comrades charged too closely to the enemy, that was (which took about all of three seconds) - and at 6600 rounds per minute, that was saying something.

"Allow me." Baalial stepped forward and into the androids' line of fire, the aura of felfire coursing over the demon easily dealing with the incendiary bolts.

Hotaka stood on the sidelines with a dire, suspicious expression. Already, he could hear the footsteps of Mayhem soldiers behind them, the remainder of the base's defenders apparently planning to fall into their backs while the androids held the line.

Then the first tremor hit. Pebbles danced along the cavern floor as the whole place trembled with a vengeance, the tall man shuddering at the (for him) extreme cacophony of the explosion. Trails of dust and dirt rained from the ceiling.

They'd pulled the trigger.

"Move!"

Hotaka's shout caused Baalial to twirl about, the claws of his arm thrown toward the tunnel they'd come from. The undead man gave a silent nod, leaping back a few meters and taking the passage under fire just as the Mayhem troop arrived.

In bursts a few seconds long, the chain gun’s chatter echoed from the rocky walls, the zombie yelling to the others with accent forgotten, "Get going! I'll hold 'em!"

Hotaka gave a decisive nod, leaping forward as Twilight ripped the androids blocking their path from this plane. Dodging a falling stalactite, the rock shattering on the ground just moments after he'd passed underneath, Ryuu tucked the first civilian under his left arm, then snatched the second off Arrow's shoulder as if said person was but a feather.

"Everyone on me!" he shouted to the others over cracking rock and dancing pebbles, "Move fast and stick close!"

Baalial didn't think twice, breaking from the now-harmless androids and following the robed martial artist. Hotaka knew what he was doing, and the demon had full confidence in him.

"Be ready." he whispered to Toy in passing as Hotaka took off toward where he knew an exit for a fact, reminding the mechanoid that a blackout (or some other manner of blinding everyone) would be necessary if the place came down on them...

The robots armor held fairly well, though to the Resistance fighter's credit, they didn't escape the attack unscathed before Twilight shoved them out of this reality.

One examined a gaping hole in its stomach while the other held a lit finger to a falling apart arm, repairing the damage. The other two merely waited, their cold faces incapable of emotion.

"Let's not wait for them to get back," said Steve, shifting Windsong on his back and rushing quickly past the androids. Arrow nodded, picking back up his civilian and carrying her with them. A small cube floated behind him; Bip, the targeting drone, keeping watch on the androids.
